This attack sounds pretty well planned. I'd be surprised if the intruders hadn't been on the property before, or a relative. We live about three miles away, and I'm constantly bugging my family about locking up and never answering the door. Me paranoid, you betcha, and it is going to get far worse sooner than you think.

Oh my God. How sick and scary for them. I hope they both recover ok. How scary, I am so sorry for them and their family.

I hope they catch the scum.

Oh, and this "cracked a flashlight over the old man's" is VERY rude and disrespectful to refer to the man as "the old man". Bunch on jerks and illiterates writing articles.

I am old also, but I sleep with my gun at my bedside and I will use it. Keep a low profile, but that did not help in this case. My dog is the best alarm you could imagine.

Thank you for the shot of good old COMMON SENSE. Just as a cat is the oldest and best form of rodent control, so too a barking dog is the best alarm system. Anyone who lives in the country should have both.
Oh, forget breeders and head on down to the local animal shelter for a mutt. You will have a grateful loyal friend for life.
I also believe in the citizens right to bear arms.

What big men !! Beating up a grandpa and his daughter. We read a sad article with sadness in our hearts for the victims. But it will be a glorious article when the crooks are caught ! Jail time/prison time, okay. But CUT OFF THEIR JEWELS,they won`t be needing them !!!

After seeing this in the news, I now also sleep with the outside lights on at my mountain house, and the gun safe open next to me. I don't answer the door for anyone I don't know without my gun somewhere on me. It's unfortunate that we have to resort to these measures. I hope the scumbags that did this get caught. I think they'll have to go in as "sexual predators" so that the boys in jail can take care of them for us.

Wow. This is disappointing to hear. I'm just finding out now. My mom's great uuncle and my great cousin. In those mountains which I go to every chance I get. that makes me so mad. Really though. How could twoo people in good health do that to two elderly people. What the heck .! they didn't even have a safe. I've been to their house plenty enough to know that they don't have one. So they were harrassed and beaten for no reason. I hate people like that. I hope they get caught. the sad thing is though taht most likely they won't. Me being a 12 year old girl am just trying to say, if it can happen to a kind, hard working farmer then it can happen to anyone. So be safe out there guys really.
