Stop feeding your narcissism. LOL I lived in SSTA in the early seventies. Within a few mos, I caught window peepers, and OH, just 2 yrs ago, wandering downtown a 'man' approached me and asked me to exchange quarters with him; the phone 'rejected' his quarter. LOL, the dirtbag had given me a nickel.

Some of the sorriest asses live in SSTA because they think that is a free pass to 'above' others.

Seen fruitville area lately? Doolin. Banjoes.

You see, all the wannabes come here, AFTER decent people built the area up. When one could find a decent job and live in peace. Now it's worse than long island. Want to go somewhere local? Hell, you may as well be living in ATlanta. It's 'out there' if you can take the torture to get there.

Stop with the narcissistic bs. I watch you wannabes flock here, often sheriff twenty steps behind you, and try to BASK in other people's glory. Do the math. And for some of you mooches GET OUT OF other's asses. Every time I see an RV or know that most of out of state tags on the road at 5pm, often pulled into a gas station I know they are 'someone's after work nightmare'. Mooches 'dropping in'.

Get a f'n life independant of OTHERS.

TO ANYONE THINKING OF COMING TO SARASOTA....DON'T MOVE HERE!
The "tourist season" is Nov/Dec through until May, depending on the tourists. They will make your life miserable and you will hate life. The only time you will have any peace and quiet in Sarasota is when they all leave thank god.
Then it will be too hot to enjoy the outdoors you COULD have enjoyed except for the fact that all the freaking tourists come here and hog every single nice place so that it is just NO FUN at all when the weather is nicest.
They come here and think their "poop don't stink" and that all of us who live here year round should lick their butts! I was actually in a store one time and a Canadian woman said to the clerk that if it wasn't for her and her kind ... Sarasota would be nothing!!! I said GOOD! I liked it better when it was "nothing!" And that is true.
All the businesses suck up to the tourists and under their breath they HATE them with a passion. I know.... I work and live here. It's a constant battle because businesses want the obnoxious, entitled, rude and snooty tourists and snowbirds so they can get their money. That is it. Does anyone like them? NO!

The pay sucks, the majority of the people who live here all year are just as snooty and entitled as the tourists... in fact most of them were tourists first and then they invaded the area.... like roaches. You can't get rid of them. As soon as we can get jobs elsewhere we will leave.... can't wait!!!!!

There is no peace and quiet here anymore. The beaches are not that great and getting more crowded by the day. How fun is it to spend 30 minutes traveling the ONE road for 3 miles to get to the overcrowded and overrated beaches? I live ON Siesta Key Beach and I cannot get out of my freaking driveway to go to the freaking grocery store during season. There are 2 hour waits at any restaurant, the grocery stores have no groceries because the tourists come in packs and buy it all out, you can't move or breathe or think. Don't do it people. Do Not Move Here .... hell... don't bother vacationing here. Clearwater is a lot more fun and people are mostly NORMAL there!

Hey, no place is perfect, but I can't find too much WRONG with Sarasota ! what's NOT to like really ??
You could be in a hellhole like Compton, Newark,
Memphis, Detroit, or shoveling snow in Chicago
or dealing with traffic in Houston !
No place is a great place if you're BROKE, and
Sarasota has never been an attraction to future
residents, seasonal residents, or travelers that
are broke and penniless !
Other cities are similar in that they don't
attract lower income earners, etc.....cities
places like Naples, Cocoanut Grove, Myrtle Beach,
Sea Island, Jekyll Island, Ponte Vedra, La Jolla,
Del Mar, Fisher Island, Martha's Vinyard, The
Cape, and quite a few others !
Nothing new there !
I don't think that Sarasota is going to get
many people from Jackson, MS, Montgomery, AL,
Terra Haute, IN, or Memphis, TN
over the past 10 years, there has been a trickle
of people from the greater Atlanta area, but heck
even most of them are 'really' from Atlanta..
Sarasota does over get a few fine folks from
the Ashville area, but not that many
I suggest anybody that is truly interested to
get on line and read about the facts about
Sarasota, not just dumb and biased travel sites
or biased blogs !
Then go visit the few lIVE CAMS, and just look
how gorgeous it is today ! wow !

If you want to live in an area which is certainly better than most, believe me, Sarasota is ranked pretty high.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you, the above poster do actually LIVE on Siesta or in some of the great communities around Sarasota and Manatee Counties, and you do think that SARASOTA SUCKS, then you really do have a miserable life, or you're so broke you can't pay attention.

In fact you sound like you just got priced out of the market or something like that - or perhaps you're just jealous - I don't know, but if you're just "waiting to get a job" in another city and "can't wait" until you find a job in order to move, tells me a lot. It tells me that you're not a professional of any substantive sort or you would simply get up, pack up and leave ! But no, by your own admission, both of you have to "FIND a job" which tells me you're living in the wrong place anyway.

Sarasota area is not for you, just like a number of people who have gotten displaced or priced out of Florida and have had to pack up their 5 year old SUV with their Uhaul in tow, and now landing in places like rural Tennessee and small towns in North Carolina and Georgia.

It sounds also like not only are you priced out of the environment but you sound angry and frustrated about being displaced by other capable and contributive consumers and residents that may have more resources than you do.

Find a town that makes you feel good. The problem is not with Sarasota as much as the problem with you.

The giveaway is what you said "AS SOON AS WE GET JOBS" you will leave Sarasota .

Fine, good for you. You guys go get "Jobs", make money, and be happy ! You're irrelevant to most here in Sarasota...and marginalized by your own words.

at 23, unless you have resources, Sarasota/Manatee is not for you---plus, we have enough people who want to come down here, hang out, live the 'beach life' and pretend they are in Paradise (with no resources)
The drum circles are gettin infiltrated with 420 friendly people and ruining the beach for FAMILIES and people who are not quasi-hippies, retro-hippies, hippie-wannabes, and assorted other miscreants who are pissed off that they missed the 60's, Woodstock, the Democrat 1968 Convention, The Vietnam War Protests, etc...
If you aren't in a profession at 23, FIND ONE, and stay out of here until you can make a positive and tangible contribution to the fabric of Sarasota/Manatee
Boo, boo, boo!!!! You are typical of what is wrong with America nowadays...so closed-minded
and frankly STUPID and MEAN. I don't know if you were around during that time in the 60's and early 70s, but I was and attended that "notorious" hippie school in Sarasota FL, New College.
Although, I hardly agreed with the political philosophy of the hippie movement then
(I am much more sympathetic now that I see what the Military-Industrial Complex has done to
this once great nation), I found my classmates who were hippies were some of the most
intelligent, friendly, loving people I have ever met. Sorry you missed it. I miss those days
when human potential and the potential for humanity was an open book and not a
penal code/instruction book for the enslavement of the human spirit as our burgeoning
Police State mandates.

I moved to Sarasota in 2014 and I can say this place sucks. I'm from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and I've lived in NYC for 4 years. Seriously, I don't see anything interest about this city. My husband is from Englewood and we met in New York. Sarasota is def a very depressing place unless you just come for a quick visit or if you want a safe and boring place to raise a bunch of kids and retire. Not a place for artistic and open minded people...
