Rail? Trail? Decide, N.Y.

There are 7 comments on the Albany Times Union story from May 12, 2013, titled Rail? Trail? Decide, N.Y.. In it, Albany Times Union reports that:

What do you do with a 141-mile stretch of rail bed that cuts through one of the nation's greatest parks? Revive the rail, or build a trail? Fans of each of those options have staked out their case, and could probably keep arguing until the moose come home.

Do both, put a trail along side of the rail. The train wouldn't run very often through that route; maybe four times a day.

I was born and raised in the Adirondacks. I would opt for the Rail to Trail. I have been on the Virginia Creeper Trail and the one outside of DC. They both bring tourism to the areas. I do not think a train would do that because additional transportation would still be needed to see the vastness of the Adirondack Park.

I got my own creeper trail-it's called Facebook:) I rode the railbed north of old forge in late march and it was great. It was very narrow in spots and I wouldn't want to share it with trains in the winter as that is quite dangerous.

Both. Most folks aren't willing to trek deep into true wildernesses areas for mega-miles in non-motorized transport, and trains are just too damn cool too!

However, I wish they'd cut the excessive kid stuff like faux robberies and just make it a pleasant ride for adults to simultaneously dine and legally drink without DWI fears.

... er, I misspelled "wilderness" the same way Bugs Bunny would have probably PRONOUNCED it !!!

Please tear up the rails so we can surf powder and bang the sides of the railroad bed north of Old Forge.I know this is for the snowmobilers good but on a real lake affect day it,s GREAT.
