i watched this story on the news last night and what unnerved me the most was that balding little man standing in front of that courthouse saying that county taxes will be raised as they are the third lowest in the state. That rankled me because of how detached we really are from the rest of New York State. Living here in the Adirondack Park, we are not really economically mobile. There is very little steady work that pays a liveable wage, there is very little opportunity here to be successful and while the older folks move here, the young people are fleeing here. How much more can you tax the people here before they say,'this shit has gone FAR enough?!"

I agree Jackal, and at least Scozzy touched on that, there is no development and a tax base that never grows because there is no development. And guess what, the state is still buying up more land!! No industry, very little commercial, whats left? The Adirondack Park is a complete failure that has destroyed our economy.

i wouldn't say that the Adirondack Park experiment was a complete failure, but as it relates to the residents of the park, there has definitely been a disconnect between state and residents. What should alarm the state is the fact that not only is the population getting older, but the tax base is getting smaller.
