i've lived in saranac lake almost my entire life, now i am 18 years old and more depressed than ever and not from what the elder population thinks. In this year of 2011 i've seen more people commit sucicide, go to jail and rehab, but do people sit there to think about what the cause is for all of this, well to be honest its this town anyone you talk to from age 15-29 will say so. Saranac Lake is a retirement town there is nothing to do unless you want to drink if so there are 10 bars on main st. As and child growing up this town is a great place parents dont have to worry about too much, but as a teen or youth this town has nothing to offer it sends more people in a depression then anything else so many people are into smoking pot, popin pills, or drinking their lifes away, and the reason for that is, it passes time it hepls people cope with the wasteland this town is. No one seems to understand that, they all think the younger generation is out of controll but is it? or is it only in these small towns. People are starting to go crazy i've seen more people whom abuse drugs and alcohol in this town than in the city you cannot walk by someone in this town whom is not accioted with drugs i've been doing research, going around and asking the youth why they smoke, drink or do pills they all gave me the same responce, "there is nothing to do in these towns no matter what you have to drive an hour to do something, its depression and drugs help"... now if this generation is this world future shouldn't they be introduced to new things? saranac lake wants a city status but their not a city their a ghost town in the old west and even then there was more to do, this town spends money on useless stuff like the construction at the park by stewarts no one is going to use it maybe once but after that no one is going to want to pay to have their kids sit on a plastic horse and go in circles, its also not going to attract anyone its a waste of money, and so many kids are having kids i see it as a scream for help its so hard to stay straight in this town and its not the parents fault there is only so much they can do or say but when you get to a certian age kids are not going to listen, this town needs to stope putting all their focus on the young kids and the elders and start focusing on the youth the teenagers and young adults there are too many bars creating too many alcoholics and too many drug users its sad to see americas future fall into a slump that they may never get out of rehab jail and AA dont help unless a person wants it but if you dont give someone an alternate something to keep them buissy then they are going to find something more harmful to do think about that at your next town meeting.

As far as I'm concerned it has to do with the water around there. I've known Saranac Lake for years and there's no question in my mind that the people there have some serious problems overall. I've never met a bigger bunch of whackos in my life.
Sorry gang. You wanted a reason - I gave you the truth. There's something wrong with Saranac Lake and also Lake Placid for that matter too.
I have no intention of reading anyone's reply so don't waste your time with one.

You better take a look around you pal. Saranac Lake is now and always has been FULL of weirdos. Some say it's the water. I can believe it. There's queers all over the place and drunks and welfare bums and just general losers all over the village. The only place worse is Malone. That place is a mess thanks to the county seat being there and the county giving away the farm to welfare there. I know a guy who lives in one of the highrises and works on the RR in Placid. He likes little boys but no one will look into it because he was a minister before he retired. I see him all the time on the train and he seems to like the younger boys. Ignores the girls completely. This is a good example of what we have living in Saranac Lake. Yes, I live there too. Hope some day to move though - even though I love the area and there's a lot of nice people there too.

Um. What about my nuts? "Your nuts" indicates that you're talking about my nuts. OH - wait. I see! You mean YOU'RE nuts as in YOU ARE NUTS. When are you morons going to learn how to use proper words in a sentence? Educated in Saranac Lake or Malone? I suspect you were.
And by the way, if you're going to post, learn how to spell. When you idiots post garbage like this with the way you write, it truly makes educated people laugh - like you're actually trying to sound intelligent or something. Who can take a person seriously when they write like that.

However pessimistic the kid is, he's half right.

When a kid gets done high school, what else is there for them? Isn't many great jobs around unless you want a life of annual 2% state COLA's with one of the many state agencies. They all move away for more prosperous locations and *hope* to make it back someday to retire or something.
What the kid's wrong about, is the town. I've lived in a lot of places in my time and I can honestly say, if you think SL is bad, you got a lot to learn about the real world.
