Don't waste your gas,it's already a done deal, just like the insurance deal they stuffed-down the the retired senior-citizens throats, some have to up-front as much as $400.00 dollars for their meds. Most who are barely getting by now. Thanks to Paul Duffy and the BOARD!

Be assured my friends, the reason the Franklin County Legislature is having these hearings is because they are required to... Rifleman 73 is absolutely correct! This is a done deal.

This is crazy. The money won't go to what they promise. They'll just waste this money, too. Cut spending, and stop raising fees and taxes on those of us who work!

the county is a puppet of the state. the legislature is in a tight spot because all of our taxes go to albany, not local programs.

and those retirees barely getting by are paid for with county tax dollars, so some of us think it is ok to ask them to pay a little more. they had free insurance for decades.

Those who are retired also PAY COUNTY TAXES,and as far as the free insurance,it's been long time since it was free(and most were making just above minimum wage)Their income hasn't gone up but their insurance and taxes have!!

Everything they say is an excuse for MISMANAGEMENT.

And I'd STILL like to know where this new county manager came from. He's obviously working for legislature points, and doesn't give a damn about people.

FIRE THEM ALL!

Any member of the Franklin County Legislature who votes for ANYTHING beyond the 2% property tax hike needs to be TURNED OUT AT FIRST OPPORTUNITY. With far more advantages than other counties have, given casino and prison revenue, the elected representatives of Franklin County have SQUANDERED the public wealth. And then, they have the stones to chew out the sheriff for doing his damned job. NONE of them are worth their salaries. NOT ONE.

New York State defers to local government at every opportunity. No, you can't blame the state for setting minimal staffing standards at prisons (the REAL issue here). That's a public safety issue that is guaranteed to effect other counties were it not set and enforced.

County elected officials need to step up and volunteer salary and benefit cuts across the board. That's the only thing that's really fair. If they had the county's welfare at heart there wouldn't even be hesitation.

And who's bright idea was the buyout for early retirement of county employees? Does anyone not realize that the only people who are going to go for this, are those who have other prospects? That every incompetent political appointee and crony now employed has the sweetest deal of their lives, and they are never going to walk away from that? Why on earth would we pursue a policy guaranteed to lose the county's best employees, and preserve the worst? The potential loss of efficiency alone is astounding. How can anyone pursuing a personnel management policy like this ever claim that they have the county's best interests at heart? Buyouts are not only going to cost us up front, the long term cost in the loss of the best county employees can never balance whatever minimal short term fiscal savings are realized.
