New Mexico Senate eliminates locomotive fuel tax to lure Union Pacific

State senators on Monday night voted to exempt Union Pacific from paying locomotive fuel taxes in exchange for it moving a rail hub from El Paso, Texas, to Santa Teresa, N.M. The bill carried 37-4, though many Democrats were skeptical as to whether the deal is good for New Mexico taxpayers.

will submit a counter offer to build the facility.

Then AZ will match that and raise them the operational costs for the first five years and no property tax.

Then the Union Pacific parent company will sell the property and take the money and run.
