Hello
I'm posting something unusual here that my wife has brought to my attention about her past in santa rosa. The legend of the Lechuza. She grew up in santa rosa with her family in the 60s 70s and 80s. She and a couple of other family members had seen the old witch-owl. Could it really be?
Does anyone here know about brujeria going on in your town that could lend possible authenticity to it's legend? or have maybe seen it? Or maybe it's just something parents tell children to keep them in at night? I'd sure like to know. Thanks.

Hi. My mother grew up in Batesville, Texas and I heard so many crazy stories told by her and my grandma. According to her, a lechuza was outside their ranch home when my grandpa heard it and shot it with a shot gun. The next morning they woke up to find a naked woman laying there on the ground where he had shot the lechuza the night before. I asked my mom what happens to these womens bodies when they are dead and she states they are picked up by their higher lechuzas? Who knows if that is true but why would my mother lie? Here is a link to a few similar stories. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index...

when I was younger, my grandpa used to tell me and my cousins stories about the lechuza. One night before bed, he was telling us his experiences and he said if you talk about the lechuza then it will come. I remember all of scared and shaking as we layed there to go to sleep. Then, outside we heard a cawing sound and we jumped up and ran to mh grandpas room and he went outside with the shot gun but he said he didn't see anything. that was the only experience that I had.

years later, my cousin told us that one night he was walking home from a party that was a couple of streets away. it was like 3 or 4 am. he said he heard and saw a big black bird in the tree and he ran into the house.

a different day, that same cousin was in my grandmas room ironing his clothes. while he was ironing he saw out the window like a big wing fly by. he ran out of the room when that happened.

it seems that he only experienced the lechuza. now that I put the pieces together, I understand now. A family hated my cousin because somebody from their family got sent to jail because of my cousin and they had a witch in the family. She would always put spells and curses on him. she may have sent the lechuza to terrorize him. my aunt, his mom, took him to a good witch to get the curse off of him.

we lived in mesquite, tx.(near dallas, tx.)

I also believe in lechusas.I was taking my husband lunch at about 230 pm and a white owl about five feet with a huge wing span fallowed my expedition.i stopped my vehicle about ten feet from it i felt as if it had a message for me.Its eyes were huge and black,it had webbed feet and looked human but covered with hair like a bird .I know have several nightmares at night over this.I live in pflugerville and my son who is 23 said an owl was crying by his window two months ago. I ignored him because i was scared.Well about two weeks ago i was outside injoying a cigarette, and i thought someone let their parrot out.I tried listening to what it was saying but decided to come inside. The next day picking up my daughter at 1110am i saw a white owl comming towards my car slowing down and it almost landed on the front of my car.Since then i see it daily and its circling around my neighborhood it even has another black owl with it.The other day i was with my older daug and the owl charged at my car while i was driving it looked inside the dash of the car.why are they trying to tell me.does anyone know.

I do believe that the reason that the owls are stalking you is either to watch over you or there looking for a particular person in your family

Well la lechuza, is suppose to be the pet of the devil. They come to those who are going through tough times. They have this screeching sound or some people say its a whistling sound, but I've heard it and it sounds more a screech. At first I didn't know what it was until I told my mom, and she said that it was la lechuza then she took to this guy and was to help me get rid of it, he hit me with peacock feathers to protect me from it. To get rid of it there is suppose to be a prayer that you supo\pose ot say normal and then you say it backwards to get rid of the one after you, but I have never learned it. Hopes This Helps You. Bless It Be...

I live in san antonio tx&i had never heard of lechuza until I experienced it&had to ask what it was. I have been going through some pretty crazy crap lately&so my friend&i decided we would go out driving just to get away well we were having a wonderful time till we were on applewhite rd by the toyota plant. We stopped at a red light, mind you this stop was the only place with lights down the road,&not thinking anythin when the light turned green&we were turning left I looked to my right&there was a huge black bird more then 4ft across flying under one of the lights. I was freaking out in amazement I looked at my friend who was looking the same way I was&i was like woah did you see that?she looked at me like I was crazy&i was like what&she said what did you see?once I told her, her face dropped&she had one word for me lechuza.

i have had an experiance with the "lechusa" too... i was walking in a dried up river and it had some tall grass and i heard a noise behind me so i turned around and i saw a huge black bird that was way taller than me and i got scared and i turned back around to tell my cousin who was walking in front of me and she didnt believe me so i looked back to see if the thing was still there but it flew away and disappeared behind a huge tree. i didnt know about the lechusa then... but now that i think about it i get scared.

I've been told many stories Like these about the lechuza as I was growing up. I remember when I was around 7 yrs old my parents, brothers and sister were outside one night at my grandma's house in pearsall,Texas.. and we saw a huge white owl flying over us and we ran inside. I've never seen or heard one til a couple months back my boyfriend heard an owl outside our window. We hear it every night til this day but never see it. Around the time he first heard it, things have been going wrong for us, Idk if it has anything to do with what problems we're going through or not.

My wife was describing her experience with her when she was 13 in santa rosa. She said she was the only one home, while upstairs she seen it on a branch outside her upstairs window. Then she ran downstairs and hid. Shortly after she could hear scratching on the front door, but she remained frozen in place. Soon after, she heared the approach of the neighborhood dogs who came to pursue it, chasing it away. The next morning, that part of the neighborhood awoke to the sight of all their dogs laying dead. This would have been the year 1977.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the next day there were large claw marks on the front door.

I was showing my wife pictures of white owls, for which she replies "THOSE are not lechusas". She says it's more like an old lady in appearance.
