Two pot stops tops: City leaders consider new rules for medicin...

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

In a city famous for its tolerance of marijuana, leaders will consider allowing no more than the two existing medical dispensaries within city limits, despite the federal administration's increasing acceptance of the medicinal herb.

Well, it looks like I'll be spending eight hours taking the bus and train to San Francisco to get medicine for the rest of my life because it's $150 per ounce cheaper there, and better quality.

One thing's for sure, I will never, ever, for any reason, set foot in Greenway again.

The recommendation comes after a city study showed that only one-quarter of customers shopping in the two dispensaries live within Santa Cruz city limits.

"We're interested in the city of Santa Cruz and its citizens, certainly not outside of the county," said Mike Ferry, city planner. "The two dispensaries are more than adequate."

In addition, other, larger cities restrict their own dispensaries to two or three, Ferry said.
San Jose = 0 dispensaries
Salinas = 0 dispensaries
Watsonville = 0 dispensaries
Monterey = 0 dispensaries
Hollister = 0 dispensaries

Collectives by law are suppose to be non-profit and are limited to their membership. They are NOT permitted to obtain marijuana from outside of the collective and they are not permitted to provide marijuana outside the collective. Get a clue Santa Cruz residents. These dispensaries are nothing more than drug dealers. I am amazed the city attorney and city council do not know the law in this area. The AG's guidelines are very clear. These numbers and the implied sources of marijuana sound like admissions. Why aren't these drug dealers being prosecuted? Why is the city permitting this? Furthermore the feds are still going after dispensaries, they are just going after more large scale operations. Santa Cruz has gotten to liberal and tolerant for its own good.

I'm sure medical pot helps a small percentage of people, unfortunately there is just too much money to be made selling this stuff. We've created FRANKEN-POT laws were on one hand anyone with a card can blaze up where ever they see fit, and go to the dispensaries and re-stock on the black market's number one seller any time they wish. Seems like we have drastically high levels of 20 somethings with conic back problems and weed cards.

The state needs to run it like liquor is done in other states. ABC stores , Alcoholic Beverage Control, state run, state profit, not a whole lot of people running stills competing for business.

Medical Pot causes more problems than it solves. Name one other prescription drug that is as easily exploited as weed.

It's too bad, but I am beginning to realize that we are not responsible enough for all of the liberal policies that have shaped and in the end harmed Santa Cruz for the past 30 years. Change - YES WE CAN!!!!

I have a feeling that Mary Jane is going to get legalized in California in a year or two. The propositions are already being prepared.

The idiots on the city council should be preparing on how they want to deal with that rather than wring their hands over the MM dispensaries.

Honestly, I don't want my little hometown to become Stonerville, but it could probably capitalize heavily on the inevitable.

After all, the liberals have destroyed the real economy. With dope, we might have one cash crop that might disperse a little wealth.

CAP LOCKS are a hybrid strain of marijuana. Usually sold as clones but seeds are available from mail order houses in the Netherlands. It's reported to be 75 percent indica and 25 percent sativa. Early flowering, lots trichomes and a mellow high has made CAPS LOCKS a favorite. Please see you local Marijuana Professional for more information.

don lane you are a joke. I could care less if SC allows more dope stores, but don you always say that you are going to hold off until you know more. All issues are on the agenda well before the city council meetings. When will you start to learn about up coming issues at city council meetings? So that you can cast your vote.. Don?

The top planning commissioner (Tom Burns) and his two side kicks are quitting their jobs after questionable behavior and suspicious circumstances and city council members are being sued as individuals in a Santa Clara Co. court. Now they are saying no more pot dispensaries. Coincidence? I think not.

Dollars to doughnuts that the two dispensaries allowed to have a duopoly are paying off the city council somehow, either legally or otherwise. Use the power of govt. to limit the competition. Works for schoolteachers, why not pot growers?

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Taurus

As Mars turns retro, emotional tension makes you feel as though you're walking on eggshells. The temperature has risen by several notches, making the situation at home more fraught. Better to clear the air quickly and cleanly than to sulk and brood in ways that simply prolong the agony.
