We should vote yes on Measure A because retailers that want to come to Mendocino Crossings that are not able to, they have the availability to come to the Ukiah Airport area like PetSmart (Jeff Adams said Mendocino Crossings has only room for one pet store tenant, and Petco is doing better than PetSmart, financially, and they already have a letter of intent from Petco.), Borders (Jeff Adams said it likely that Barnes & Noble is likely to come to Mendocino Crossings because Barnes & Noble is doing better than Borders, financially, even though Barnes & Noble has not expressed interest to come to Mendocino Crossings, at this time), and retailers like those.

Jeff Adams works for DDR so of course he's slanted- Even so though I'll believe him before I'll believe SOLE people because SOLE has made more misstatements, uttered more untruths than any political campaign since last year's No on B crowd.

Right at the top of SOLE lies was there would be no CEQA study. Well, guess what? Even if we wanted to exempt ourselves from State mandated regulations like CEQA we can't- it's the state law! There HAS to be a CEQA, and it's quite a stretch to believe out of all the legal eagle Ukiah lawyers and politicians in SOLE not one of them knew that.

Another lie was it's not about the money...but uh...let's wait on that tax sharing agreement- an agreement the City and County can't agree on, in spite of the crossover from county supervisor to city council many of our semi pro politicians make- then we'll publish a scare tactic flyer alleging if Prop A passes the City of Ukiah will go broke. But if A is defeated the County will be just fine? Riiiight.

Another SOLE lie is we'll lose a net of 300 jobs if a mall is built because our downtown will become a ghost town. All I can say is, travel to Healdsburg, visit THEIR downtown and then explain to me why it's thriving in spite of its close proximity to box stores. By SOLE logic Healdsburg should be a ghost town dying on the vine... instead it's bustling, with some trendy shops and restaurants and a great sense of community.

I understand being passionate about politics, but it's pathetic when SOLE deliberately perpetrates these lies to further their own agenda. If A is defeated Mendocino County will be in a budget crisis with nobody there to fill the gap. We have been a county that's survived on State and Federal grants and that's drying up, people- Government at every level is getting stretched thin financially, and sooner or later we'll have to generate some income or we'll continue to see more cutbacks, furloughs and layoffs.

I urge a YES vote on Measure A. Say yes to 700 jobs, say yes on spending 170,000,000 dollars of OUR money locally, say yes to supplying Millview Water District with a much needed source of water, and say yes on cleaning up the one site in Mendocino County that needs it most.

Mendo Mike, the reason Healdsburg's downtown is thriving is because it has restaurants, shops and hotels that real humans actually want to go to....it is what's called a destination, not some place you end up when they kick you off the bus. Don't compare Ukiah to that; it would be like comparing dog poop to gourmet food.

Nice article! I would like to say though that I wont shop at either. Downtown or the Mall we may or may not get. I wont shop downtown because there is NOTHING I want or need. How many people buy crap from the Habitat? How many ppl can afford to shop there? or how about the Crows Nest? Are you going to pay 400$ for a painting with wine bottles and grapes on it, not to mention it's mass produced item? Yeah I didn't think so, only rich ppl will even be tempted to buy crap like that. Downtown shopping is a joke and to expensive. I won't shop at the DDR Mall either because all you fu**ers can't do nothing but complain about it and how it's going to destroy our community and wonk wonk wonk. How about you all just shut your mouth because you don't get it anyway. I will just keep my shopping online and have it delivered to my door when I want something. It would be better than shopping with a bunch of whiney little bit**es like yourselves.

Tried to buy a book at a downtown book store. The lady was VERY RUDE. And told me if she ordered it it would cost $19.95 and take 2 weeks, before it was shipped and then it will be 7-10 days.
Went online and bought it for $9.95. It'll be here in 3 days.
Downtown stores can kiss it.

My experience at Mendo Books has been quite the opposite. True that they can't compete with Amazon for price, but they have always been helpful, prompt, and courteous.

Masonite is a toxic hell hole. This measure is a scam to get around the toxic review. If passed cleanup won't happen. I don't want to shop at Toxico....Vote No on A

Once again, a community can't vote to exempt itself from California's environemental regulations. A CEQA review is required by the State of California regardless of how we vote, and the site will be inspected and, if necessary, cleaned up before anything is built. If your concern were REALLY to clean up the site you'd vote Yes on A- if A loses we'll be looking at the same eyesore, alledgedly leaching the same poisons into the Ukiah Valley, we've looked at the past 20 years for the next 20 years.

It's refreshing to read a clear and seemingly honest opinion on this very community dividing topic. If the writer has a political agenda so be it.....the non-elitism is welcome, most ordinary people can relate to that; I think I'll vote yes on A......

You can generally tell when you make sense and the opposing point of view doesn't.

First they tell lies. When people do not believe the lies they start name calling.

Hard to believe there is an entire polital point of view based on acting like five year olds.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
