Residents to 'Fight Like Hell' Against Post Office Closure
Selling the historic, New Deal-era Post Office in downtown Santa Monica and relocating its retail lobby services and mail boxes about a mile away to Seventh Street and Olympic Boulevard -an area described by some residents as "the desert"-would save the agency an estimated $3.3 million in operational costs over 10 years.

well its easy,,trace the money,,who made the deal..how big a kick back will they receive..when the government says will save money by moving,,translated that means,,some body just offered a government worker a hell of a kick back..

With public announcements like this the USPS is using it as leverage and hanging it over the head of the local residents.
I'm for selling property to pay their bills. But wouldn't a scaled down operation or a lease/rental property help out as much.
It's seems the USPS hasn't done enough little and/or different things over the years now they are boxed in with options like this

This is a situation where authorized USPS vendor would come in handy. A small store selling stamps, handling package shipments and offer PO Boxes might be an alternative. The USPS needs to find away to contract out more of their services and viable alternatives for low volume areas like this.
