Your 'homeboy'? In another thread, a 'homeboy' said he was here on 'business'. Inquiring minds would like to know what 'business' that was?

Hey, the area you refer to is "Los Nietos" aka an unincorporated area of Whittier. I was present at a residence on Walnut (one street North of Burke) near Skabo and law enforcement was needed. Whittier PD was called because the mailing address was Whittier. That was when caller was told that was unincorporated Whittier and the call was transferred to the Sheriff's Pico Rivera Station. The responding officers had to double check to make sure who was to take the call. That is when you learn that if you live in an unincorporated area with a mailing address the City your tax dollars bought you the LA County Sheriff's Dept. Thankfully, the call did not involved violence and was just a nasty eviction and Whittier officers covered the call until the guys from Pico Rivera got there. The officer's from both departments told us of how there are some calls where one side of a street is LA County Sheriffs and the other side would be a City's police department. The said depending on the situation citizens can be understanding or really irate. We were just glad to have someone with a badge show up as that did the trick to get the tenant moving and the husband was under the influence so he was not keen on continuing the trash talk and etc. We commented that we had no idea that there was such an issue for that address and expressed some concern as to what if both departments thought it was the other guy's call. They explained that there was a policy about responding to the areas so that someone gets there and that no one assumes that the other department will or won't respond. The dispatchers are the ones that contact the other department and are supposed to make sure there are no assumptions.

Having said all of that. If you are a crook and you know that one department responds quicker than the other, where do you conduct your lawless adventure of shooting a snitch. I doubt that very many folks know about that small area that is considered unincorporated Whittier. I always knew the area as Los Nietos as a kid and was surprised when I learned that my friend's mailing address was Whittier. Yet, most the people I know refer to that area as Los Nietos especially the area where that couple was killed and the area from Los Nietos Rd. North to Slauson. I don't know why it would be thought of as Santa Fe Springs, unless the whole thing about that area being unincorporated could change hands and was taken over by Santa Fe Springs. I am not sure that those type of exchanges very often.

If nothing else I think we can all agree that there are some very angry young men battling out some issues in a very violent manner. I find it unsettling but don't understand why some that post here want to declare Santa Fe Springs a Ghetto. I do suspect that those that do so are not from SFS or Whittier. Violence is up in Norwalk too. Sounds to me like the hard times have hit everyone and the Mexican Mafia or whoever is having trouble collecting their taxes. Industrial areas in all cities are known be being areas where shootings like that of the couple last month happen. It is an issue of not a lot of people around in the off hours and opportunity.

Hey, sorry to rain on your rant here but the area known to many people as "Los Nietos" is not in the City of Santa Fe Springs!! It is unincorporated area of Whittier! It has been this way for ages and when I say that I mean going back to when Santa Fe Springs incorporated as a city. Burke is in "Los Nietos"/ unincorporated Whittier. It is my understanding via someone who owned property on Burke near Norwalk Blvd., that while locals referred to it as Los Nietos that the mailing address is Whittier.

Whatever you would like to believe, go right ahead. Your booklet form of posting to the forums really is not going to impress nor convince anyone. You can go right ahead and defend SFS all you want. You can slice off the pieces that you don't like and throw them away. That's no problem with me. However, as someone who works in SFS for many many years and lived there at one time, I still know what at Ghetto it is. Even back in the 70's and 80's, one could not leave their car on the street over night. After a few nights, it would be broken into. One New Year's eve, there's gunfire all around. We often find bullets in our parking lot and sometimes embedded in our roof. You can be loyal to your beloved SFS if you wish, but it is you my friend that needs to wake up, take the blinders off and realize that SFS is a ghetto. Only then will the citizens there take their city back.

Have to agree with Chuey on this. "Hmmm" you really seem uncomfortable to be in the city of Santa Fe Springs, and to such an extent that you view it as a Ghetto. Majority here are not agreeing with you. You are certainly allowed to have your opinion. Perhaps your idea of Ghetto is not shared by others. Lots of long time residents of this city know a good deal more than you give us credit. Calling some one a Moron for not agreeing with you is ironic as for some reason you seem to be frequenting a City you refer to as Ghetto. If you object to Ghetto areas then you should frankly stay out and move on to a city where you feel more comfortable and where you can fit in. You want us to think you live in some superior city? Well, fine if you think that. This is a forum for those concerned with matters in Santa Fe Springs and a sounding board for ideas for change. Name calling and labeling as you do is not constructive. List you fair city so those of us in Santa Fe Springs can decide if it is so superior as you want us to think. Santa Fe Springs does not in anyway meet the definition of Ghetto. Grab a dictionary and look it up. Maybe you are an OC transplant and still in shock because you see people with brown skin. You are quite the puzzle. Santa Fe Springs is a tight community that has a history of moving along for the better. I've seen it and lived it and if you can't see it is because you just have not been around for it. It is sad that you are so down on a community that you are clearly not knowledgable about. What is so great about your community? What causes you to call those of us in SFS morons? I frankly don't agree with you and would like to disect the fair city you reside in that you feel is with out flaw. Not city is perfect and the same can be said for the residents. I wonder how you rate with your next door neighbor? Would he/she say you are an excellent representation of a resident in your fair town? Maybe the neighbor thinks your a moron that boosts their ego by constantly putting his neighbors down. There are people like that you know. Move on and pick on your own town and fix it. Hey, it is a new year a great time for a fresh start.

I'm with you "Study" where is this guy working. He can't seem to read a map as he thinks Burke St.@ Nwk Blvd. is SFS and insists that it is in city of SFS. Also, does not seem to understand what the word Ghetto means. Certainly, does not seem to be interested in anything positive does he? Starting to think it is someone that just has an axe to grind with someone here in town and thinks bashing our community makes him a macho guy. He has so much dislike for SFS he should really stay out of it or you would think he would not bother with the city or this forum. I figure there is always someone that is so unhappy in life that they just have to spew negative statements to make their day better. I find it very interesting that he does not bother to mention his location where the superior aspects are such that it makes SFS seem to be a Ghetto in his eyes. Hope the new year brings him a happier guy so he can turn out a new leaf as far as his postings in the SFS/Whittier forums.

Ok, you heard 5 gunshots that sounded like they were near by. Did you pick up the phone and report what you heard? I hope you did report it so Whittier PD could respond to look into it. Don't be someone who hears or sees stuff and does not report it. If you don't report hearing gun fire you are not helping the situation. You mention concern that nobody was killed. It is so important to report these things. You could save someone's life or stop someone from being injured. Gosh, in SFS and Whittier the response time is amazing compared to Norwalk where it can be 45 min to an hour if they show at all. Better safe than sorry when reporting gun fire. It could be gang stuff but also it could be domestic violence or one of those home envasion robbery deals. You could be saving a life. Plus, a patrol car driving thru the area can deter such stuff from being repeated. I always worry about hearing gun fire and realizing how far a bullet can travel and that is how inocent people sitting in their yard or in their house get wounded or killed. So, if your a block away it's your business to call as that bullet can miss the target and end up in someone you love.

The unfortunate truth is that gang members and members of the mexican mafia and those cartels from South America are sprinkled thru out California. The rival gang thing has been going who know how many years. I don't think any place is 100% safe, but also know that being aware of your suroundings and reporting trouble when you see it to Whittier PD is necessary to roust these people out of the area when possible. I know that there is even trouble in North Downey where there are house that have been taken down by FBI as the owner is a Columbian drug guy and They supposed to have also taken down a grow operation. No town is exempt these days. The rival gang thing was going on in the 40's when my Mom lived in East LA. Some aspects have not changed much other than they players have advanced to some really heavy duty weapons in the way of semi-auto guns and such. It is an unfortunate cancer trying to invade all areas of California. I have been told to report activities that point toward possible or certain illegal activity to PD and let them handle the problem at the begining. All cities are at risk for these mexican mafia types as they mix legitimate business with the illegal business they conduct. As citizens we have to be aware and report to law enforcement and hope for the best. At least SFS has cops that show up and do so much faster than those in Norwalk. Norwalk is suffering big time with too little cops that have a slow response time. What we have to worry about is the element that is moving Northward up from Norwalk. There are plenty of shootings over there. LA PD even came in on one and shot a gang banger in parking lot of a market during rush hour. It was LA PD's special ops unit too so who knows what it was all about and the kid they shot was all of 15yrs. old. Have friend that lives over there and they say Rosecrans Blvd is like a boarder for some of the trouble but it is moving North and some of it is regular gang business and other stuff is the gangs not liking the influx of blacks that have moved into the area. Lots of violence and it's sirens and choppers at night especially on the weekends. To the point where it is odd if no choppers circling. Let's hope they don't bring that up here to SFS. Don't think NWK Sheriff have it under control, city spends a lot on their public safey people that go home at 9pm and money would be better spent on Sheriff so there will be more on the street but they keep adding public safety people when they need cops. Sad situation with slow response. At least Whittier PD can get to us in a much shorter time.
