12 gauge slugs in him and a half a dozen 30 30 slugs all in the body and chest cavity and the bear was still moving 48 hours later

In Minnesota wolves were protected until this year. The Government even attached transmitters to wolves, inside their bodies, in order to track anyone who would dare kill one. The transmitter would activate when body temps dropped, dead wolf.

According to some guy in a bar if they shot a wolf they would quick throw it into a river so it would move downstream and be difficult/impossible to find. If buried they could be found and lead to persecution.

This year it's legal to hunt wolf so it's not an issue any longer.

Are you sure it was killed by a bear?

After reading these comments, I do believe people in Ohio need to be educated about black bears. It's very rare for them to charge a human, and if they do its usually a bluff charge. I find it hard to believe this was a kill or be killed situation, and the bear could have been frightened away.

You are right, a humans life should be more important than a bears, but consider the situation. The bear has lived in the same area its whole life. HE has moved into ITS territory. The animal should not be punished for this. The man made a choice to move into the area he moved into for whatever reason. I believe that you should have to sign a paper saying that you recognize the area you are moving into is bear country and you cannot harm a bear for moving onto your property. Put a fence up, you came to his house, so he can come to yours. Its unnecessary to move out into the country that far. It is personal preference, not a life or death choice. HE CHOSE TO MOVE THERE. Therefore it is his fault.
Bears are smart enough to remember what night is garbage night. Putting trash out the morning of pick up can virtually eliminate bear visits.

What, a human out-smarting a bear?! Yeah, right *LOL*

I'm willing to bet most people don't realize a bear can open a car like someone used the jaws of life on it, just for a French fry under the seat. You NEVER put ANYTHING with a scent where a bear can get to it.

a new study that found that black bears the most common bears in North America have killed only 63 people in the United States and Canada over the last 109 years.

The study also found, contrary to popular perception, that the black bears most likely to kill are not mothers protecting cubs. Most attacks, 88 percent, involved a bear on the prowl, likely hunting for food. And most of those predators, 92 percent, were male.

If mankind continues to encroach on the bear's territory, then he is no longer at the top of the food chain. He still has the wherewithal to escape an attack if he's educated in what and what not to do. It's not like we're talking grizzly bear here. A black bear will run from you, unlike the grizzly, who is the king of the forest.

My husband becomes like one of those bear when someone comes between him and his food, too ;-)

Timothy Treadwell wasn't running on all cylinders; probably caused by prolonged alcohol and drug abuse. The fool basically committed suicide, it's too bad he took his ditzy girlfriend with him.
