Obviously you have not rented a hotel room in the flats lateley. Even 10 years ago they ran more than that in January.:)

Oh my gosh.
A. I don't start watching mind-control TV until 10pm, thank you very much. And the reason I can watch said TV is because I CAN AFFORD CABLE.
B. The rest of the county does plenty of "arguing and loving and talking and LIVING." We just don't do it with a meth pipe in one hand and a switchblade in the other in the middle of the street at 1am in a drunken stupor while yelling at our homegirls in Spanish, comprendes?
C. We don't have an 8pm police curfew anyplace in this state that I'm aware of. State your facts.
D. You take pride in being too poor to live in a nice house and own nice things? And you think other people are the problem?? Hey, enjoy your crackhouse decor and your 40. See you at the soup kitchen.(I'll be the one serving your idiot a-s-s.)
1)Cable is the rubber hose of the masses
2)No, you rock with a bottle of xanax and a PDA
3)The 8AM curfew is so that you can get up early enough to watch Mary Hart
4)You are so "poor" that you have to make people soup to feel better.
Peace -

Wow! Progress in Santa Cruz? It's about time. I love Santa Cruz, grew up there. However, when I travel back home I pay appx $150.00 for a crappy hotel room. It will be nice to stay in a place that will be nice, clean and new! Santa Cruz definately needs more upscale hotels. I hope this is only the beginning. Good Job city counsil!

Let's relocate the inhabitants of the Beach Flats to behind UCSC. That way, we can clean up the Boardwalk area and let the knee-jerk liberal UCSC kids deal with the gangsters.
Best idea so far. Why is expensive land 1 block from the beach dedicated to low income housing. Why not tear down La Bahia for a homeless shelter.

Sorry, Iceman, plenty of US citizens, both native-born and naturalized, speak Spanish as their first language. And, better yet, our numbers are growing at a far faster rate than most other demographic groups. The Yankees overran us in '48, but we'll soon out number them through natural increase. Time to pull your head out and sign up for a Spanish class.

The hotel will "help clean up" the area because once people with money are there the police will clean up the area. Wonder where the drug dealers will go? What's the next lowest income part of town?
That would be Live Oak.

You want me to learn a foreign language because your people are too stupid to use birth control? Sure thing Bozo. You are creating a permanent underclass.

With all their over breeding they more or less resemble the animal kingdom than the human race. As you can see with animals, they will keep breeding without any consciousness of how much is enough.

let's take a look at those quotations, shall we?
"I can't wait to see the look on your faces when every wretched word you speak against me and my people is force-fed back to you."
"Me and my people," insinuating you are one of the poor oppressed minorities you claim as your own.
But in a few lines down: "I'm lily-white and they hate me just cuz'a where I live."
So you are "lily-white", like many of the very folks you rail against, the supposedly "rich white establishment" that apparently encompasses folks who want to have a nice house and neighborhood free of crime, and perhaps a big screen TV. I think most of these folks you've been capping on are pretty much the average Joes. And there might be some who are wealthy, and so what? I'd say most of them in this town worked their butts off to make their money, and if they are enjoying it, what's that to you?
I think I hit it pretty close to the truth in my last posting. You're a wannabe minority that's in search of a cause, and someone to blame and rail against. you've made a complete fool of yourself in your postings and I havent seen one posting that supports your doofus mentality. Again, there it is: a self proclaimed "lily white" guy with a degree in philosophy from an expensive university" living in the 'hood (these were all your words, not mine). Which expensive university was it? They're all expensive. Was it Brown University? Columbia? Princeton? Harvard? Or was it San Jose State? Sonoma State? Or UCSC? I guess by living in the 'hood and speaking some street slang " 'bout dissing my people" and acting like you DOWN for the Brown brothas, I guess you gots some street cred!!!
Again, the white guy trying to to be a brother of another color: they call them whiggers. The mental image I get of you is Napoleon Dynamite's brother Kip dressed up in the bling bling and leaving with his girl La Fawnduh. What a riot!!!
You got him.

Does anybody besides me wonder if the City Council members ever remember that Santa Cruz is

OUT OF WATER

Desalination is not an acceptable way to provide water for further development like the long range plan at the University, the Westside plan, or more hotels in town

Nature has defined a boundary for us and we need to heed it - messing with the mother to bring in new business or more students is very foolish in the long run, not that SC City Council has ever demonstrated or been known for their long range thinking - in fact, I truly wonder when I see the outcome of their decisions, if they think at all

Before we bring in more people to enjoy the beaches for example, why doesn't the City Council do whatever it would take to clean the beaches up

Most of August, and maybe still, the beaches from the river mouth all the way down past the Dream Inn were posted unsafe for swimming, and that is something exceedingly important to address

In fact, I let Chip Connelly know since he is the CEO of the management firm for the Dream Inn and a brilliant thinker

I asked him to put pressure on the council to take charge of the situation immediately, but I guess they were too busy deciding to get more tourists to town to pollute them

I think it would be great if Chip and the Marriot people and all of the local hotel owners along the strip there sued the City of Santa Cruz for environmental pollution and putting people's health at risk so they can earn more taxes or whatever is motivating them to think they can keep expanding beyond the amount of resources nature is providing the people of the area

and/or maybe one of the visitors children will get sick from swimming in the water and make a national scandal of the council's decision

Its so typical, of Emily Reily especially, at least from my experiences with her, not to know her limits and push for what she wants with no regard for that which has been determined by nature and that is we only have so much water and when you have to make some up by an altering process it be best to know you have crossed a line and to cease and desist

My grand daughter, Krystal Lacey, is 7th generation to Santa Cruz coming from an Irish family that traveled around the horn on a boat in the 1800's and getting off in the Cruz - Leibbrandt Ave is named after us, and when i took her to the beach and told her she could not swim in the water when I saw the signs, it struck me how completely unconscious the people running our town have been and for how long - we used to make fun of the people in LA who let their beaches become toxic and now we are like them

Whats left of Beach Flats belongs to the people of the community and needs to be cared for in a way that it is safe for all - safe from crime and safe from pollution

The council members need to get their priorities straight once and for all and to respect the boundaries created by nature

When you are out of water, you do not bring in more people its just plain and simple that the Great Spirit has spoken

Cowell's Beach is often posted unsafe for swimming but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the tourists who visit.

I doubt it's much more polluted than in recent years past when it wasn't posted - it's just that now the signs are posted.

I suspect the outflow from the San Lorenzo and the local current is to blame more than anything. The water swirls around and around without much exchange over there.

Incidently, it wasn't posted from the river mouth to the Dream Inn. It was posted from the Dream Inn to just the other side of the wharf (to about Lifeguard Station 2).

Those signs were posted by local surfers to discourage non-locals from surfing there.

This is all fantasy. How many shootings are there in Beach Flats? One two years ago? How many stabbings? The only reason there's violence in the barrio is because of the War on Some Drugs. Valium and Prozac keep white Amerika from suicide, but pot and powder is only ok for the children of the rich. FACT - police act towards poor people how they'd never act towards the middle class. FACT - government run printing presses and private corporations coining currency (fractial reserve banking) is making hard working people poor. FACT - the Fannie and Freddie bailout is an example of this - they inflate the money supply to save their friends, the price of eggs d milk and butter goes up, and the people who get hit the hardest is US.
You gotta bring down my neighboorhood instead of boosting your own. Why is that? Don't you have any pride or self-respect? Build up YOUR OWN community instead of dissing mine. I think most of you are empty behind the eyes, empty between the ears, and empty between your legs, and that's why you gotta bring down people who are struggling and boosting their own 'hoods.[/QUOTE]
I am not ragging on your place as I understand the pride that comes with it. But there is a problem in beach flats. My cousin Larry burrow was killed going to get his baby some milk after a hard day of trimming trees to make your beach flats look nice. For saying he's from Fresno when asked in bumper to bumper traffic. My other cousin was also shot, and my 13 year old cousin was in the car also. We can't lie to ourselves and say its not an epidemic. All you have to do is Google beach flats and the sureņos gang stories pollute the page. I loved Fresno the same way, but it doesn't mean there is not a growing problem with the Bulldogs gang. I know them personally and gangs will make assumptions on you and act on them. We misinterpret what people who come to raise our economy and spend money in our towns are Intending and kill them. Eventually the gangs will have everyone too Leary to come to our areas and it will only create their own poverty stricken areas where nobody wants to work or shop in the crime area. Its not you who is to blame. Nor the wealthy suburban who is a little apprehensive of living there. A life may be just one or two numbers every year or so to you, but to my family it is devastation and a baby boy with no father. He looks identical to him. It will be hard for him to see that later on.

Why the HELL would we have to sign up for Spanish classes? This is America, don't speak our 1st language English? GO TO MEXICO! SPANISH ISN'T OUR NATIVE LANGUAGE, IF YOU WANT TO LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM THEN YOU OPEN THE BOOK AND LEARN ENGLISH TO DO SO.

Agreed! What an idiot. And this isn't Mexico, our American language is ENGLISH. Please press 1 for English or 2 for a shuttle ride back to where they don't speak English.
