Kohl's to hold hiring fair, seeking 150 employees

Is it too late for the "Progressives" to stop Kohls from opening? Surely there must be some flaw in the environmental impact report or traffic study? I am quite sure that I saw a monarch butterfly and a three-toed salamander in the planter outside the store one day. We cannot stand by and watch a new business open up with actual jobs in our community! If people get off welfare and unemployment, this might have a negative impact on county, city and state workers! This is an outrage!!

not that they have any work I'd be interested in, I wandered into their website to see what they are looking for. Apparently they have not listed any opportunities in Capitola and there is therefore no way to apply for a job to get the interview.

They can't pull anything because the mall is already there and Mervyns was in the same spot all those years where Kohls is going to be.

I have to agree about Ross, I do like that store but I also wondered why it was mostly hispanic women who get hired, I tend not to shop in places that discriminates aganinst white people.

Hopefully Kohl's utilizes e-verify to ensure they aren't hiring illegal aliens that use stolen identities.

Jobs are for US citizens, or those with lawful status ONLY.

You must be dreaming. A "Kohl Career"-entails 40 hour work weeks, minimum wage, zero future, & no benefits or healthcare, selling pure throw away garbage.
They're a real boon to the county, if only we can get another housing project for Sect. 8 to make this somehow tenable.

Quite wrong or you do not know how to use a website, I entered the website, found all the Capitola positions quite easily and was able to apply for a management position. Many opportunities are listed for the Cap store. I am not "above" working retail if it feeds my family.

Do you have to be a legal resident and lawfully entitled to reside in the U.S. to apply for a job? Any private insurance offered as part of the compensation package/wage/salary or do you have to wait for free Obama government rationed health care visa Medicare?

Apparently you missed my sarcasm Scream. My point is that there is a "frothing at the mouth" liberal element in our community that works tirelessly to kill anything that doesn't involve SEIU, bicycles or higher taxes. The other 99.9% of us are tired of losing jobs, inadequate roads (FOR GOD'S SAKE WIDEN HIGHWAY 1 ALREADY), sanctuary city, gangs, transients (not homeless), drugs, etc.

I just want to clear up a few misconceptions I found written on here. I was recently hired by Kohl's Capitola. First, Kohl's does not hire "only hispanic women." Having been part of the interview process at the job fair, I found that Kohl's consistently hired the most competent people for the job. This includes men and women of every race and age (17 and over.) You might consider it "going nowhere, part time work," but in this day and age, any work is good work, and Kohl's happens to offer benefits to all of their employees, including part time. I personally, am taking a large pay-cut, but I am happy to have even been given this opportunity. Kohl's absolutely drug-tests. I went through the process myself. Kohl's goes through a very thorough background check. You can be assured that the employees are legal. Although jobs aren't through the union, benefits are offered to ALL employees. A Kohl's Career is NOT "minimum wage, zero future, & no benefits or healthcare." If it was, I would not have accepted a job there, because I can not live off of minimum wage. After a certain time period, I will have health and dental, a 401k, FSA etc. While it is not necessarily my dream job, I am grateful for the job in this economy. I feel fortunate to have found this job when I did. While I would have laughed at you two years ago if you had told me I would be working retail now,now I am just relieved to have a job that has possibilities for my future. AND, because I know someone is going to ask, no, I do not commute from some far away place. I was born and raised in S.C. County as were both of my parents and a couple of my grandparents. Hope this clears up a few things.

Have you already done the orientation? What kind of drug test did you have to take? Blood? Urine? I'm not asking because I use drugs. I've just never had to take one and I want to know what to expect.

I just found out that part-timers do not drug test. If you are a full-timer (management), then you take a urine test.

I have orientation with kohl's soon and am a part timer. so they don't drug test part timers? how soon after orientation will work begin? the store does not open for a month. what do we do in the meantime? thanks!

Are you working for the Capitola one? Well, I guess it doesn't matter. There are 30 Kohl's opening at the exact same time and they are all doing the exact same thing. You will have your orientation. And then the month before we open, we will be setting the ENTIRE store up for the Grand Opening. Keep in mind, there is absolutely nothing in the building, so we will all be setting it up from the ground up. We will also be training in the jobs we have been given. So, technically there is a ton of stuff to be done before the store opens. I am not sure what you will be doing the week of orientation. Although, I am sure you will find out then. There is a week of orientation, since we have hired 170 part-timers. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much, I was worried that after the orientation, I would have a month of downtime. I just can't believe they don't drug test part timers. I've have 2 interviews(they seem so hard to get lately) and 2 drug tests and was concerned because Kohl's didn't mention any. I accepted another part time job besides Kohl's (but for less pay) and was wondering if I can manage both, but if we will be setting up the store, then I guess not. Thanks again, you have put my mind at ease.
