"It's just an unfortunate lapse in judgment," Santa Cruz police Capt. Steve Clark said. "It's something we should all be concerned with."

Lapse in judgement on whose part??

Ms. Mince for not disclosing to anyone her prior conviction and sex offender registration and then taking responsibility for the children's area, when that would obviously cause quite a problem for the organizers?

The Santa Cruz Police, City Council , Parks Dept for not running background checks on key personnel for an event being held in a public park?

WAMM for not knowing that one of the person supervising the childens area molested, provided meth to a teenage girl snd served time in 2000??

nothing happened!

I bet next time there will be background checks, but it's not like she was one-on-one with any kids.

Wow. The police state publicly that no crime was committed?

I wonder how long until she gets an attorney to sue for wrongful arrest, prosecution, etc.

Valerie, your an idiot. Bottom line. Hiring a tweeker that gives kids speed and f&%ks them.

How would you like it if someone pumped you full of meth and then pumped you for awhile, Val? All in the name of our precious medical marijuana?

Sheesh. Too many tweekers in Santa Cruz, especially in that FRIGGIN valley.

Smarter and safer! How about not giving WAMM a permit next year. They probably wouldn't care, they would have the smoke fest at the drum circle.

I will be sending WAMM another contribution as a show of support.

WAMM, specifically the WAMMfest, got used. Shame on Ms. Mince. It can be seen as positive that this issue surfaced, so it probably won't happen again here in SC with any event offering child care.

Understand the difficulties organizing a low-budget event of this magnitude in this area of interest. Understand the difficulties Mike and Valarie Corral and the WAMM group, some of whom go back 15+ years with WAMM, have faced. They have done exemplary with an extremely difficult, high profile, high surveillanced and much harrased effort.

They have kept their cool and have done monumentally good work. All the best to all the WAMM folks.

"Corral pointed out that Mince has paid her dues and that she wasn't directly supervising children Saturday. Mince was in charge of the children's game booths, a job that largely involved cleaning and setting up the games."

So it would be ok to have a child pornographer helping out in the booth as long as they didn't touch any of the children at the event. Or have an arsonist helping out with the barbeque as long as they only "held" the kerosene and didn't squirt it at anyone.

This is a very serious lapse of judgement on the organizers side. Knowing that the event would be watched and held accountable for any infractions, they should have checked out the past of all organizers. Where there any convicted drug dealers there?

The woman working in children's are is regularly involved in school functions at SLV High School. Big mistakes in the past are sometimes learned from and it doesn't mean there is currently a risk. Though she should have disclosed the information or not volunteered to work with children.
WAMM continues to do good and compassionate work, despite challenges from within and without.

Wow, WAMM and the City of Santa Cruz narrowly avoided a catastrophy! Ms. Mince is a convicted homosexual pedophile for molesting a 15 year old female child while introducing methamphetamines and she is allowed to associate with the childrens play area at the local Pot Fest? Are you kidding me! One would have to agree that one's judgment is definately affected when one associated so closely with the smoking of marijuana isn't it! Boy the Pot-Fest organizers (WAMM) and the city of Santa Cruz surely left themselves exposed to a potential massive civil lawsuit had Ms. Mince as much as attempted to touch a child during their event! WAMM's spokesperson, Corral said Ms. Mince had "paid her dues". No Ms. Corral, Ms. Mince has not paid her dues! That's a liberal socialist falsehood. Ms. Mince permantantly affected the life of a 15 year old girl due to Ms. Mince's pursuit of her deviated and perverse form of sexual gratification and while introducing hard drugs to assist her perverted scheme! It appears Ms. Corral has not researched the recidivism rate for convicted child molesters whether homosexual or heterosexual. It's over 80%! That is the reason Mince is registered as a sexual predator/sx offender!!!!

Now that is this out in the open, I hope SLV High School asks her no longer be involved in school functions! Her target age attend SLV. If your child attends SLV High, take this to the principle.

This quote really bothers me "Corral pointed out that Mince has paid her debt to society"

Really? Would Corral leave Mince in charge of her teenagers? She gave METH to a 15 year old and had sex with her. She is registered for a reason. The tone of this makes me think Val doesn't think its a big deal.

The tone of this makes me think that Val is trying to cover her butt. The event was already controversial, and this shows that they did not think things through in their fervor to hold the event.

This is what happens when the city council asks people to ignore certain behavior and request that the police look the other way.
And to all the people saying "What's the big deal? Nothing happened.", what if something HAD happened?
I am a mm supporter, but if you're going to hold such an event then you better make sure that some strict guidelines are followed.
It once again proves that some people in this town can't handle responsibilities that coincide with their actions.

Huh? It still is. I'm still digesting this. I've had quite a couple of weeks with my caregiver being raided and this and running for city council and having my charges dismissed and all.

Imagine what I'd get into if I didn't spend all my time sitting in my room working on my genealogy!(I'm just about done adding the Virginia Mayos from the R. Bolling Batte Papers online through the Library of Virginia).

But I just checked and the article is still attached to the comments.

And it's still there. And so are the comments.

And in the middle of this Genivieve called up and, among other things, asked about the spitting thing.

Folks, this is what happens when I try to mind my own business.

Welcome to my life.
