It's a good thing there are alot of restaraunts that are able to compete with low prices these days.
One can about expect some of our local places to close down in the future. The economy is ruining everything at the present.

Best deal in town, NOT in the article: Rocker's Pizza on Pacific: HUGE SLICE OF PEPPERONI PIE,$2 every day until 6 pm. Except Tuesday, when all they have is cheese until 6 BUT IT'S JUST A BUCK!

Also: at Pacific Cookie Company baking facility in the Sash Mill, you can just _wander in_ and get surplus or slightly malformed cookies at 2 or 3 for a buck! Self-serve! Just BAG YOUR OWN COOKIES and SLIP THE MONEY in THE CAN.

I have been adding deals in our area to a blog, http://SantaCruzSpecials for a while now, I will add these in. If you know more, let me know! I have it sorted by day, so you can browse what the deal is for that day, by category or restaurant name.

I noticed that the Sentinel decided to highlight some of the most expensive restaurants in the county, rather than the lower-priced ones that people might actually go to during the recession. I wonder why that is? was this a paid advertisement?

Boccis has been doing a 2 burgers/2 bags of chips for $2.95 special lately M-Sat 2-4pm - it's to go only, but that doesn't mean you can't sit at the bar, or at one of the outside tables to eat. The burgers are good full sized (at least 1/4 if not 1/3 pound each)ones and it was no hassle at all when I asked for a bottle of ketchup and mustard to dress mine while I sat at the back bar and played (free) Bocci. http://www.boccis.net/ Thanks for your website Jesse.

Steve, glad you mentioned Palapas. It has always been a restaurant which is great for kids. I doubt that families with little kids would find Bittersweet or Ma Maison particularly kid-friendly.

You're right, Kevin, about the higher priced restaurants being featured. Don't forget that Ann Parker is primarily a public relations person. Many restaurants were left out, but it is the responsibility of each one to promote their own establishments directly to the dining public.

Yes, Clouds and Shadowbrook, among others, are among the most expensive in the county. Even with their so-called "specials" it is still not a really good deal. For those with an appetite, I recommend many of the "all you can eats". These restaurants all have all you can eat deals for under $10: Royal Taj, Bangkok West, Little Tampico, and of course Fresh Choice. I'll check out that Santa Cruz Specials website, that looks good.

It is pretty true that most restaraunts that are fairly expensive are really for romantic evenings and for dating and enjoying time with that special someone. AND.....usually you do not really get enough to eat in the meal. You are paying for the "atmosphere". So if you have a hungry date, it is better to go to a place that serves FOOD rather than "atmosphere".:)

I love Louie, but if he wants Clouds Downtown to continue to do well, he needs to look to the menu and the kitchen. I was there recently and had the half price pupu platter. I left most of it on the plate. The Asian noodles and pot stickers were gummy, the coconut prawns were mealy and the sauce it came with was gelatinous. We were thinking about having dinner but decided not to risk it.

Louie wasn't there that eaveing. I wonder if that is the key?

The featured high price restaurants are not where the majority of locals eat. They promote in the article expensive specials that are not really affordable. Last we had out of towners that wanted Shadowbrook, we all had terrible food, ordered medium and got rare everything. Lousy tiny dirty salads. Loud seating and food at outragous prices. Soon they will be out of business. Bittersweet is a toursit trap and overpriced. Remember Casa Rositas, great food and reasonable,on Portola, Chinese Village on Cap Rd. where you get great food at reasonable prices. Rocket Pizza on Pacific for Pizza. Saturn Cafe is still the local best cafe.

Bittersweet Bistro is no bargin. My grandson went there with a group of young people after a local play to have desert. The least expensive thing on the menue $15.00 for a piece of cake, not including tax and tip. What a shock. His lesson, cake cost more then the play and the nicer resturants are for the wealthy only not the average consumer.

Why, in this economy, would people be concerned about which restaurants have the best deals?

How about SAVING MONEY and eating at home?

How stupid is this article? Oh well, it's the Senile, it's to be expected.
