Lesson wrote: To Fred: Yes, watch out for Leopold. The last paragraph in the article reads: "Leopold hopes a portion of the redevelopment funds can be used for economic stimulus, though the new plan is vague about how exactly that might be done." Voters don't really understand the unintended consequences of the RDA robbing the general fund, but it really smacks of arrogance when Leopold believes he can take RDA money and use it for 'economic stimulus'. That and "green" are the new buzz words. And he is vague about how this would work. What a crock. Keep an eye on Leopold, we don't need a male version of Wormhoudt. Or a male version of Keeley.

I have lived in Live Oak for five years and absolutely love it. I'm glad to see attention being paid to its infrastructure and look forward to freshening up some of the retail spaces. I want to live, work, and shop in Live Oak and believe we can get there some day. I'm also all for a police station being located in our community. Here's one happy Oaker looking forward to a bright future.

Justin Hale wrote: I wish I'd gone to this meeting, and pushed the cross-town bike path we so desperately need. Of what desperate need do you speak? I ride my bike cross town regularly, mostly for exercise and enjoyment. These cross town bike paths are called roads, and there are bike paths on either side of the road, with signs and everything. Perhaps you have missed them? Bicycles will never, ever be a substitute for the automobile, of course. I certainly hope you are not referring to the rail trail nonsense, as this meeting had nothing to do with it. Glad you were not there so we could remain on point.

Why did the Sups push for the Arana Gulch bike road and drop the bridge from Coffee Lane Park to Mattison Lane. This would provide safe biking and walking off the busy roads. Did some NIMBY pull it out of the Plan? Seems like we could use it for safety and convenience for the many people living an LO.

For younger folks or newcomers to the area: I've lived in Santa Cruz since 1980. In all that time, the Sentinel has never published one issue that conformed to simple normal American English spelling, grammar, and syntax.
In contrast, the finer newspapers (e.g., the San Jose Mercury News) for many years often put out letter-perfect issues (sadly, they appear not to care any more either)-- but the Sentinel has not. Why not?

It's unfortunate that Topix', or the Sentinel's, mislabeling of this thread prohibits many from commenting.

Please, no more trying to export RDA housing projects to communities that do not have adequate infrastructure to support them, such as the aborted Zayante Oaks proposal in Felton. By the way, that debacle cost Live Oak and Soquel residents at least 1.2 million dollars in a settlement with South County Housing Inc. This is a powerful reminder of just how incompetent the current RDA/Planning configuration is.
