"Judge Robert Atack also raised the bail for Sherri Lee Chinn, 38, from $50,000 to $100,000, although her court-appointed attorney said his client is homeless and her only source of income is Social Security benefits"

We are all enablers. Give a drunk SSI benefits because of her disability of being an alcoholic. If one had to work or not eat maybe one would be forced to follow the straight and narrow. But no we give you Social Security, a home at the shelter and you spend your government check on getting high.

I don't quite get it - the not guilty plea. It seems to me that her standard of living in prison would be far superior to what she previously had going on.

Who's car was she driving if she was homeless and had no money. Are they somewhat to blame as well for letting her drive their car?
I saw a woman at Ben Lomond Mini mart this week and she claimed she was homeless with a brand NEW bicycle and backpack being delt with by the sheriffs dept for being unruly. She seemed high. where was this in the papers. I bet they gave her a cell phone as well to call her counselor/probation officer.....What a good life to get from the tax payers everything you need....She was so bad they should have taken her in...swearing at the officers and stuff.

Corralitos Taxpayer: Amen! When are liberals going to get that picture. It does not do anything or anyone any benefit to enable them... She has her lawyer "Paid by your and mine money" to defend her and ask for a lower bail? Because she is poor? I say off with the Attorneys head... Since when does being poor justify a lower bail? You do the crime you do the time. She apparently had enough money to get 2 priors and buy enough booze to get a van and drive drunk a 3rd time...... She was not crying poor then was she? Well she can spend the rest of her life in prison and then she wont have to be worried about being poor anymore will she? Nor will innocent families that are doing things the right way have to worry about some idiot drunk that didn't learn the first 2 times that driving drunk does not pay.

Being homeless doesn't necessarily mean you have no money or income. Some people with jobs are homeless because they don't make enough to eat and pay rent.

I realize that you probably don't like America, but here in America it's a basic concept that you don't get sentenced until AFTER you are convicted. The purpose of bail is not to punish an accused person. The purpose of bail is to ensure that the accused will show up for trial and this is accomplished by temporarily receiving something of value from the accused which will be returned after he is received back into custody after a conviction or after being found not-guilty. The amount that is 'of value' will be different for a rich person versus a poor person. That is why bail should be higher for a rich person.

But, hey, I'm sure an un-American person like you doesn't buy any crap like that.

Interesting to note that good conservative red republican states have some of the highest drunk driving fatalities per captita in the US. Texas has highest rate of any state with Florida and Arizona close behind.

I saw that woman many times driving on highway one.
She was living in her car near scaroni road.
I wish that the sheriff would put an end to all the people living in their cars on the north coast. they are making a mess. Driving to work yesterday morning I was greeted to a man peeing facing me. great...

North Coast resident, I thought the van belonged to someone else? So, was she living in someone else's van? She has killed two fathers of children. Two dads, dead, due to her negligence. A third in serious condition.

This "homeless, destitute" pleads "not guilty"???

Jury summons' all around the county, please!

sorry, Bail is Bail. and in this case, there should be no bail, because she could bail and then others lives are at stake once again. Rich/Poor, there should be no difference in class when a crime is committed..though we know this doesn't work in the USA, it should.

The attorney mis-spoke. Her client is despicable.

So what didn't she do?
Does she claim to not be drunk?
That she didn't cross over the yellow line and kill one innocent man and one accomplice?

there must be alot going through her mind right now but one simple fact remains, she took the life of 2 people and she needs to pay for it. its bad when its the first offense, but the fact that she has 2 priors is rediculous. if the only money she gets is from social security checks, then what is she doing wasting her small amount of money getting drunk and driving instead of trying to better her life. i have no sympothy for someone like that.
