"Bikes ranging from $6,000 to $14,000 are now available, along with the Garmin Edge705, a popular GPS device priced at $649, and 3T handlebars,$350, plus many stocking stuffers."

Am I missing something, or is there something wrong with this picture? People are struggling eat, keep the low paying job they have, or find a job that doesn't exist & there's a discussion here about $350 dollar handlebars & $14 grand bikes?

I see a huge disconnect here.

I dunno... there just seems to be something oh-so-wrong about having staff come in at 3AM
in order to open a store at 4AM. Having said
that, I'm sure there will still be a ton of
people that show up and shop.

What kind of lock does one put on a $14,000 bike? Every bike in my family has been stolen (4). Not crying here, just a fact.

Ridiculous article- Satan/ Santa- change the N and see the meaning. Christmas is a bad joke. Lust for things- hoping to be able to take that 14,000 bike with you when you die???? Our species is a plague on the Planet. Kids expecting the new toys and technologies because the commercial corporate media has programmed their minds 24/7 to lust for those objects, making them feel low self esteem if they don't have them and their friends do. Makes my soul sick to see how our desire for things has exponentially evolved with our technological prowess, yet our souls have de-evolved every step of the way. Consumerism is everything in this culture, and it is ultimately going to destroy this planet if we don't get our shite together. The meaning of the season is about love, not buying meaningless things to pile under the dead tree of consumerism. Our culture is sick in it's communal soul. Make your own Christmas gifts don't buy them.

I finished shopping early this year! Bought everything online. Maybe I'll pick up some locally sold items for extra gifts. Can anybody remind me what part of the Gospel explains about how Jesus wanted to celebrate His birth with consumerism? Hallelujah!

What kind of stuipd people spend money on such crap, 14K for a bike, get real. 4 in the morning to shop for what? Material items on your credit cards that put you further in debt. I have zero credit card debt, and no interest in participating in this kind of stuipdity. My bills are all paid and I have zero debt, because we are not materialist and not driven by the buy buy buy mentality, I suggest such people get a life. Spending is not the answer. Makes me sick to see the consumerism out of control,. Try spending time with your families instead of shopping. You will learn what the true meaning of Xmas is about.

yeah, I'm gettin' up at 3 to shop at 4. Makes perfect sense to me.
Who in the world is going to buy a $14K bike but a handful of rich dentists?
Criminy, I bought a Trek 7500 FX on Craigslist from a Stanford student (original owner) for a lot less than I would have locally new.

I got up to shop at a Kohls at 4am...it was kind of a trip. There were deals to be had if you could see them through your tryptophan hangover haze.

People don't have the money these days... and if you know what you want, why go retail? I think the brick 'n mortar guys are going to find that out. Those without money will have little to spend; and a lot of those who do have cash, and know what they want, will go online.

Why not? You can save 30 percent over the locals, if they even have what you want (that includes free shipping and no sales tax). And stuff like electronics gear, TVs, and such isn't really bought from "locals," anymore anyway, just corporate chain stores staffed by 20-year-olds with big adams apples who work on commission and know nothing.

Retail is GOING TO DIE. Some of those big empty buildings will make GREAT SKATING RINKS, though.

Want to stop stores from 4am openings and 11;00pm closings? DONT GO Shop Make the stores offer good merchandise all year around. Dont let them threaten us that it wont be available later if we dont by now. Can't stand the greed.
I do love Christmas, Peace, Love, and Joy are free, the price already paid. Hug a friend and tell them how important they are. Then buy something, "if you chose to" as a rememberance to celebrate.(; )
Have a Merry Christmas!

Oh, I don't know, maybe the same people who wouldn't think twice about dropping $60 - 80K on a Hummer?! But that's different, I guess.
