I knew it!! I read the first posting and thought to myself "this has to be a tourist or someother person not from Santa Cruz" I mean come on. Its someone who appears to possibly be gay, standing in front of a gay bar,... HERE'S YOUR SIGN! Most people in this town know about the Blue Lagoon, its not a shocker to see gay people hanging out there. Such a stupid act of violence.

steph darling, the blue has not been a gay bar for many years now.... it is a mixed club that has a gay friendly atomosphere... and some adorable bar tenders.... with all the straight people going in and out of the blue lagoon, the punk rock shows, etc.. it is easy to see how a homophobe might get confused and go there.

It is sad that the haters who do live in town stepped right up to defend the Idiot who started all this.

how dumb to punch someone in the face in plain view of a crowd of people and expect to get away with it.

This kind of thing has GOT to stop. Raging intolerance? Beating someone up for being gay? What century is this????
I hope Cole White, 24, of Redwood City is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I'm 100% fine with him being made an example of and I can only hope they call me for jury duty. What a hateful, stupid act of violence in a town I'm tremendously proud of residing in. Hopefully, Mr. White's next visit to Santa Cruz will not be so accomodating. Jerk.

I used to have an office very near the Blue Lagoon. As I was leaving my office one evening, some guy challenged me to fight. I couldn't figure out why this guy was challenging me. I was just walking to my car! Then he used an epithet that referred to gays. I explained to him that I wasn't leaving the bar but had an office nearby. If I fought him, he would have kicked my butt!

I hope they throw the book at this guy.

Why didn't the bouncer hold on to the guy in case the victim wanted to have him arrested? Stupid to just let him go.

Anyone who knows Cole White knows he is not from Redwood City, but a Santa Cruz/Aptos local, and one with a lengthy history of arrests. He's nothing but trouble.

I really doubt if this is a "hate crime."

If a homosexual man attacked a heterosexual man (because of sexual orientation) at such an establishment, would it also be considered a "hate crime"?

Uhm....isn't 18 too young for a person to be out in public drunk?e did that girl get her booze? There should be an investigation into that as well.
