Kate Canlis was the best person for the job of DA. Hopefully she re-emerges. However, George Dunlap has paid any pennance by starting over and putting heinous criminals behind bars, protecting the public, and looking out for the interest of victims.
Apparently the voters thought otherwise when it came time to elect the DA. Canlis also had her share of staff favorites and people she protected.

It's not like these charges against Dunlap just popped up - they've been looked at, investigated and evidence in them has been gathered over quite some time. As for George Dunlap "paying pennance," I'm not impressed. Putting away criminals is his job, he's a prosecutor. And he takes home quite a hefty paycheck for doing that job.

Whoah, guess there's only one Dunlap left at the office, his current wife, formerly Pam Kato.

I heard about Steve Moore earlier, and Erica Engin was on calendar the other day in the prosecution spot, what's with firing people only to hire them back later?

Lawyer haters are funny though- wonder what happens when they need to "lawyer up?"

Does anyone know what the California Attorney's Oath is?I tried to look it up but it gave me everything else but the words for the Oath..
CALIFORNIA BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS CODE
6067. Oath. Every person on his admission shall take an oath
to support the Constitution of the United States and the
Constitution of the State of California, and faithfully to
discharge the duties of any attorney at law to the best of his
knowledge and ability. A certificate of the oath shall be
indorsed upon his license.
(Added by Stats. 1939, c 34. p. 354, Sec. 1.)

NOTE: There are no attorneys licensed in California. When asked,
none can produce a certificate. At best, an attorney can only
produce his Bar membership card (privately issued by the
Bar Association) and a letter of acknowledgement from the state
supreme court.

The California Bar Association was incorporated in 1903.
According to the incorporation papers, the corporation would
exist for 50 years. In 1953 the corporation ceased to exist.
The Bar Association now does not officially exist in California.
It operates as a chapter of the national organization, probably
as a common law association. The California Secretary of State
does not have any record of the Association since 1953. Any
corporation is required to register with the Secretary of
State, even municipal and non-profit corporations. The
Association has not done so since 1953.

I am not Ari Symons. In fact, prior to Bob Lee's recent stewardship of the D.A.'s, I hated the Santa Cruz District Attorney's Office and everything about it. The truth is that Gov. Schwarzenegger's recent appointments to the Santa Cruz Bench combined with Bob Lee's passionate, but firm, control over the D.A.'s office has combined to reinstill my faith in the local legal system. We have a good thing going down there right now - and I am a confirmed Democrat who has never, ever voted Republican for anything in my life! In fact, my grandfather co-founded the American Civil Liberties Union with Roger Baldwin and Clarence Darrow ("For The Defense') almost 100 years ago.
The ACLU? Hideous! A cancer on all things American.

Nope. You got it all wrong. And I don't YELL, nor do I hate. I just think the ACLU gets it wrong a lot of the time and has spread an ultra progressive liberal agenda under the guise of civil liberties and protecting the Constitution. They've become political satire and fodder for Fox News and Lou Dobbs, and it's really too bad.

It's easy to sit on the sidelines and throw darts. The truth is that George Dunlap is a gifted prosecutor with almost 100 murder trials under his belt without one loss. He has put some 5 condemned criminals on death row and even let one out when it was warranted. He was a threat to a superior at his former office so he was let go. That happens a lot to the unwary in law offices. Santa Cruz has been blesssed to have been protected by George Dunlap's hard work - and I mean this guy works exceptionally hard, nighgts and weekends - over the past few years. We are all the better for it. George Dunlap is a larger than life made for T.V. character who does not fit the standard square box. He belongs in the old west, in a Clint Eastwood movie. So what he tried to save a wife with a DUI. That speaks more of him in my book than against him. I can also understand why the State Bar can't allow that from a prosecutor. Bob Lee made an eyes wide open judgment as to the bottom line: What protects us here in Santa Cruz County? Nothing George Dunlap was accused of happened here. Bob Lee made the right judgment call to keep George Dunlap's tremendous experience on hand and to have him train the junior prosecutors in Lee's office. All the local lawyers love George Dunlap - from both sides of the bar and the judges too. Mr. Lee, keep up the good work and thanks for standing tall for all of us! Hold your head up high and keep on keeping on!
"All the local lawyers on both sides love him?" Wow. I know many, many criminal defense lawyers in Santa Cruz, and I don't know a single one that doesn't think he's a jackass and a crook. You have got to be making this up.

Gifted at lying, strong-arm tactics, and perversion of the legal process.

an while folks are munching on fox fodder, the Constitution continues to be dismantled. Democracy doesn't mean you have to embrace everybody's behavior, but you do tolerate, in exchange for your freedoms. It's a messy process, but much better than the alternative.
