Good article. Many of your conclusions are correct but only cover the soldiers returing from overseas. Your article should include the Bosnian conflict, soldiers returning from duty on the DMZ, Honduras, and other conflicts not seen on TV. For those of us who served beofore the war on terror, we were exposed to many 3rd world issues in these nations that we carried home.

While this article raised excellent points, it failed to mention the now officially recognized connection between ssri anti-depressants and both suicide and violent acts against others. Japan's version of the FDA now recognizes this causal connection, and our own FDA has made certain anti-depressants list "suicide" as a side-effect. While the experience of war can lead to suicide all by itself, the effect of these anti-depressants on some patients is what allows them to make that final decision to kill themselves. Unfortunately, these pills are being handed out like candy to our returning vets w/ PTSD, and there is little to no follow-up supervision. At the very least, vets on ssri drugs should be closely monitored to see how these drugs are actually affecting them. For more info about this, go to:
