Mysterious door rattling reported in county; earthquake ruled out as the cause

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

The shaking felt across the Central Coast this morning was more than the small earthquakes near Tres Pinos and the Los Altos Hills.

Well, it's a theory, and it holds about as much water as any other hypothesis, but in my mind, it makes the most senseā€¦ Earlier this week, Earth came extremely close to a large asteroid impact. I think it could be said with a certain degree of common sense, that sometimes those things don't travel alone. The large rock wasn't even discovered until a day or two before the near-miss. If there were some smaller rocks tagging along, it's very possible they went completely undetected (especially with all telescopes capable of doing so, pointed at their larger big brother).
My theory is impact. Out to sea, yet close enough to allow an audible sonic boom. The boom itself could have been the cause of the rattling, and if close enough, it could possibly be felt in the ground. Depending on it's size, though, the ocean could easily swallow it up, resulting in a wave that wouldn't even be noticed. There'd be no evidence to prove it.
Just remember, the most logical explanation is usually the most accurate. Conspiracy theorists will never give up the idea that the government is hiding something, but seriously, we have jets that can break the sound barrier, so couldn't the military just say "yep, it was one of ours, sorry about that", and no one would bat an eye or ask a question. But for them to deny it, I don't feel it's a cover up. I seriously think they know as much as we do. Think about it. if they don't know what the heck it was either, what could they possibly say that wouldn't send the conspiracy folks into a frenzy. It seems more likely to me that they're just telling it like it is. We don't know for sure, they don't know, and the USGS seismology experts don't know, except that it 'looks' like a sonic boom. I think the points listed here and above at least give my theory some credence.
So let me get this straight - You're not a conspiracy theorist and yet you think that an asteroid just slipped into the Pacific ocean un-noticed by NASA, the military of the USA or any other country? Everyone just blinked at the wrong second! Like you said - we don't know for sure, so maybe that also makes your "theory" a conspiracy. God, You're so "last century!"

We need to investigate this as there were 2 booming explosive sounds around 12:15 in Capitola/Aptos area, coming from beneath the ocean which blew the garage door shut
we do not neeed to be afraid to pursue whatever the military is hiding!!!Are they sending the booms which will affect the dolphins after this was questioned????

It definitely was not thunder. This was a building rattle. I thought it was a quake, but it rattled more than the roll of a quake. I only heard the 9:15 one. Weird that they happened throughout the day, and probably the night, and last night in southern california? Yet it's not an earthquake, it's not thunder, it's not a sonic boom (no planes reported)... very fishy. I wonder if something is going on farther into the pacific that we haven't heard about yet?

The term eludes me at the moment.
Due to the extreme pressure(s) from the last several months of geological activity. the "bedrock" [pacific-plate] is cracking under the stress.
As far as the 'near miss'. "they've' known about it,but couldn't say anything because of the 'panic' it would have caused. ever seen 'Deep Impact'????

If they heard/felt it in Orange County, also at 9:15, we can probably rule out thunder, and other 'local' causes.

Not only did this "whatever" happen yesterday but it also happened two times the day before. Didn't anyone feel those? We ran outside. They were like 5 minutes apart the second one being stronger than the first. Yesterdays was even stronger it seems. With no explanation from authorities this is really really weird... apocolyptic precurser maybe. I wouldn't be surprised with all that is going on in the country and the 1000s of wildfires last summer! Things are not right! I am with Alexis... get packed! Say your prayers!

Judged:

1

It was most likely an airborne sonic compression from a jet aircraft. I've heard similar multiple booms when visiting San Diego when the military aircraft are practicing miles offshore there. But the conspiracy type kooks probably believe the military was intentionally terrifying the public while practicing for when Obama declares martial law in his coupe to become El Presidente for life or,...we were visited by aliens and someone from San Francisco was abducted, sustained an anal probe before being returned to the Castro District!

Ummmm, did anyone stop to think that it may have been thunder???? I'm just sayin'
It was definitely NOT thunder(or any normal everyday thunder). I live in an apartment over my landlord's garage. I FELT (not heard) the whole apartment shake along with a LOUD thud that reverberated through the building. It didn't feel at all like an earthquake. I thought that somebody had hit the building with a vehicle.

I hear the planes at night, their is a new flight path that has not been there prior, these planes are much larger and sound nothing like normal Jets. I hear them mostly when their is a storm overhead.
Don't you just love a good conspiracy theory? How does this relate to whales washing up on shore, and global warming, and the unexplainable rise of Simon Cowell?

Alaska, hmmm. Well, it might explain Sarah Palin. There has to be some explanation for that creature.

But serious, I heard a big jet overhead at about 9:18 am today. It wasn't the usual kind of military fighter jet we sometimes hear in BD.

What is going on????

Hey, Booby...i remember hearing sonic booms in southern California when I was young. They were a regular thing then. This was not like a sonic boom. I thought that Cemex was blasting in the quarry again when it happened (the quarry is not operational right now).

Does anyone know how to remove bong water stains from new carpet? Somebody better look into these sonic booms before something gets broken.
