Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

Trustees of the Soquel Union school district aren't just sitting back, waiting for legislators to deliver inevitably bad news about budget cuts.

The law makers should also be fined for not having a budget. It is their job. If they can't do their job, they should be fired.

I think they are letting them off lightly. I would fire each and every one of them and find someone else more competent to help. They should get enough people to help out that they wouldn't need to pay them a salary. Get successful business owners who have experience in budgeting to donate some time to fix the problem.

We are talking about the representatives YOU elected! The Democrats that drive the budget process have increased state spending 40% since 2004 (which was in a WSJ editorial recently).

The budget is hung on a political divide; Democrat's solution is raising taxes...how well does that work?

Notice where Intel has their plants that they're gonna upgrade by $7Billion (NOT California)!

Intel to invest $7 billion in factory upgrades

Intel said the $7 billion will pay for new machinery at factories in Oregon, Arizona and New Mexico,

Your spelling makes it seem like you are wasting your education. I think you just did a bong hit.

Socialism is great until you have no healthy business or anyone willing to work for a living. Then everything just spirals into the dirt.

The first step in this process should be to address the prop 13 for corporations. There is no reason Disneyland should being paying the same tax rate as 20 years ago. Repeal prop 13 for corporations and do it now. The intent of prop 13 was for the average property owner not large corporations!

Maybe that was your intent when you voted for it and how it was sold to you in 1978, but Prop 13 was authored by southern California landlords who knew exactly how it would work.

Congratulations to the Soquel School Board. I wish more local government agencies and NGOs would take similar public stands. The behavior of the politicians in Sacramento is absolutely immoral. They should feel not only the pressure of public opinion, but actual monetary consequences for failing to do their jobs.

By the way, blaming socialism, bong hits, taxes, immigrants etc. is distracting from the real issue at hand: the failure of both Democrats and Republicans in the state legislature to pass a sensible budget in a reasonable time frame.

States and federal government are just borrowing more money, bigger hole. How is this going to save schools. Cities and counties staring at bankruptsy, they can't pay. Taxes are not paid by big players just John Q. citizen.

I believe the lawmakers are breaking the law. Therefore, they should be on a work release program where they spend their nights in jail until they pass a reasonable budget. Maybe a little jail food instead of steak and lobster will get their attention.

Here is a suggestion for the Soquel School District, merge your entire operation into the Santa Cruz City Schools along with Live Oak School District and then fire everyone who is not standing in front of a class room of students. We need less management, less consultants and more money in the classrooms. That would bring our county down to only 9 school districts and a massive County Office of Education that now employs over 300 worthless bureaucrats.

Allow me to guage your level of Biz friendliness...rather (extremely)low!

A better approach is to kick out the Democrats, lower spending and taxes and when new Biz moves in they will pay the tax rate of new owners...keep socking it to the rich and Biz and they will leave California (Oops, wrong tense again!).

The only retired person I personally know that owns a house in Pasatiempo is now a legal resident of Nevada!

His high school buddy, both of them native Californians, is now a legal resident of Texas.

You think you're socking to the rich and Biz...

FOOLS!! YOU ARE LETTING THE DEMOCRATS THAT RUN THIS STATE SHOOT YOU IN THE FOOT WHILE STANDING ON YOUR POCKETBOOK!!!!

My goodness. It's people like you, actually, that get us into this mess. Trying to pretend like there is a difference between democrats and republicans and you are on the right side. You blindly vote democrat or republican based on the label. Meanwhile EVERY politician, save a few, spend spend spend on their interests and tax tax tax to get the money.

Yeah, it's the democrats. Right. George Bush didn't spend hardly any money.

Wake up and smell the world. Pay attention to the platform, not the antiquated label. They all use ignorant people like you...

Apparently Mr. Private School Dad, you have no idea how public schools work. You've got paperwork up the wazoo to fill out. Teachers don't have time to do it. You've got reports, hoops to jump through and mandates to follow. You've got special ed programs, food services, payroll, hiring, student services, attendance, and the list goes on.

Who, Mr. Private School Dad, will do all that stuff?

Robert Samuelson talks about the rise in inflation from 1960 to 1979 and the impact of the period on Americans today. He spoke at the World Bank in Washington, DC.(1-13-09)

http://www.booktv.org/watch.aspx...

P.S. are you familiar with the term RINO Republican? Prime example is Bush 43 and his Congressional Rinos.

Republican In Name Only (RINO) applies to a lawmaker that spends like a Democrat; so naturally we go from a RINO to Obama (wisdom of crowds at work!).

OMG, your comment, "save a few" (politicans), refers to exactly which Democrats?

Lastly, your use of the "ignorant" label says more than you think it does...

My my, aren't our ROYAL local Dirty Demos getting awfully concerned about being paid these days?

But, if those government robbers really need money that bad, I can raise it for them at the Mello Center.

Because, even though these LOCAL DIRTY DEMOS stole my State Championship and continue to lie about it, I remain the California Taxpayer's TRUE STATE CHAMP.

And, as California's TRUE CHAMP, I will defend the Dirty Demo’s right to LIE TO THE PUBLIC about anything and everything - as they clearly continue to do.

Unless I miss my guess, the overwhelming support for withholding lawmakers' pay (per the online poll here) is truly bipartisan, and it enjoys support from the left, the right, and the middle.
