I think they admitted they're concerned with dollars when they said their concern was that a water shortage would put them out of business and they would have to close. They weren't trying to hide the fact?

The town itself is practically a "rural" water resource, its not like Santa Claus is a huge city or anything. I can't see why the city can't just sell their water to Holiday World, it sounds like they already have the capacity to supply them anyways if they're selling it to another provider first. Someone's just upset that they won't make coin off of someone else for no work...

I'm sure the town is behind this move in an effort to pick off a large water customer from a rural water utility. These towns do it all the time, they don't want to serve the less dense areas but if a major user appears then they want them for themselves and the regional utility is usually left out because the towns see these big users as cash cows.

I just don't see this instance as being that sort of thing. I suspect that the Town of Santa Claus would sell its water to the water utility at the same rate that they'd sell to Holiday World. I don't think there's anything in it for them. I would suspect that for Holiday World that there could be a real savings as they'd be cutting out the middle man (who I would suspect would be putting their mark-up on the bill).

But the issue is that the water utility "needs" a customer like Holiday World in order to keep water bills to their rural customers at a reasonable level.

If there is water shortage in that area then the theme park will be closed anyway for the duration of any rationing. The question for them is: can we buy our water from the town itself for a cheaper price? If its legal to do then the utlilty company is out of luck. People in the area can dig wells if the water bill gets to be too much.

If you go to Holiday World, you quickly see that many patrons have done just that -- put recreation in front of heigene, anyways! LOL Personally, I just love that place - as do my children. It's clean, neat, and affordable.

From an economic standpoint, if Holiday World closes due to a water shortage, how many employees are not working, how much tax revenues(wages, income tax, sales tax) are lost? I believe the impact is much higher than keeping some utlities lower...don't you?
