You are right those of us in the military did sign up for it, so we will deal with it. We always have! No need to thank us, we don't desire that. I've been doing this for 19 years, day in and day out. I've missed birthdays, holidays, deaths, and births but I wouldn't change anything that I have done. Can you say the same? It's easy to judge us while sitting on your couch or behind your computer. You have the right to speak your mine, just remember who ensures that you have that right! God speed and good luck to the 76th Infantry Brigade.

I'm going too and I didn't get to say what I want for Christmas. I have a "C" bag that is virtually empty minus my helmet. I am very good at packing things into small spaces and believe you will fit in there with some spare socks. My Christmas present is to take you with me because I need someone to get me and 3000 of my best friends coffee. No cream or sugar either!

Not all of these folks signed up to go to Iraq. Some signed up to help fellow Hoosiers deal with disasters. Some signed up to learn the skills the recruiters promised them. Some signed up because it offered the best opportunity available for them. Regardless of the reasons, they're all going into harms way and they are all loved by your friends and neighbors. Please forget your feelings about this war and pray they return to us safely.

Thanks to all the great people of Indiana who have been so supportive. It's going to be a tough year, but I'm confident the 76th IBCT is going to get a lot good work done when we get into country. It means a lot to us to know that folks back home care. And thanks to the Indy Star for the coverage. I know there's a lot of star "haters" on this forum, but the star has been really fair and helpful. Soldiers and families really appreciate the web site.

As a 30 year veteran who has packed at Christmas to go to war I know what the soldiers of the 76th are feeling. I can only say gods speed to all of you and you will be remembered by the American people. Thank god for American men and women like all of you

As a 24+ year veteran, with 3 family members in the service, all I want to say is: be supportive of these young men and women in our armed forces. This forum is meant to support what they do on this very special day, and to acknowledge the sacrifices we in uniform make every day. Those who serve deserve our utmost respect, and those that deploy deserve even higher praise - it is not easy to leave your family to go to a far off land. Today, Christmas Day, all should be thankful for our service men and women, and wish them God's speed and a safe return.

Save your personal biases for another day...

You know I could make some smart ass comment like has been done before but I believe it to be disrespectful. I want to say thank you for all you men and women do and I hope everyone makes it home safely. Merry Christmas.

As the mother of a Marine who is currently serving over in Iraq, and who will be coming home in a couple of weeks, I want to wish all of the 76th and their families God Speed, and my thoughts and prayers will be with all of you.

just a clarification-
the infantry isn't the only group that are in harms way. in today's war, there is no such thing as a "frontline." No person that deploys is out of harms way. We set our basecamps and everyone know where they are at. Watch the news and you will see that they get hit from time to time.
just so you you know, i am a combat medic with a line unit.

God bless the troops, the families, and all those people supporting them. I did my time in Afghanistan and will be going over to Iraq for my next tour. I have been proudly serving for over 22 years and for those who say I signed up for it, I will tell you I did, because I am a patriot at heart. There are those who serve, and there are those who don't. I will not knock anyone for it, but don't be so heartless toward those who serve, especially during the season when we should all be thankful for living in a great country such as ours. And be thankful there are those who will fight for the rights we enjoy.
God bless us all and God bless America.
