My family and I just got back from Holiday World last Friday, and we had a great time. The free drinks and free sunblock was great. There are a variety of rides for all. I agree that not everyone can afford vacations every year, but a few days away is great. As for other amusement parks, Cedar Point is mostly roller coasters and if you have children of a younger age they don't like riding them. Holiday World is good for the whole family. And everyone there is quite friendly and it is clean.

The poll was a joke ... no matter what three places you selected, the same three came up. I personally tried three times to select Madison Indiana and Holiday World kept re-occurring. They can't even get a web poll to work over there in that department. There are lots of places in Indiana to visit. As a child, we often went on picnics in our state parks which are lovely. There are many historical places to choose from and downtown Indy is terrific. It's time we stopped downing ourselves because we don't have mountains and oceans. There's more to life than peaks and water.

Yeah that's why the article said Holiday World was first and Indiana Beach was third.

Hey you're right, Madison should have made the top spot.

My sentiments exactly! I voted for Madison, though it probably is more adult fun, B&B's and wineries.

My children and I just returned from our first trip to Holiday World - I personally thought it was a great trip. Very reasonable with meal prices, free soft drinks and the customer service was about the best I have ever had any where. And it was clean....we absolutely love the water park.

Indiana as a Tourism Destination? Hell it's a deoparture location. I can think of hundreds of places to take a vacation that are better than staying here in Indiana.
Maybe we ought to focus some of the tax doallrs these damn Tourism Boards spend on beteer things, like property tax relief. What do you think folks?
Amy, I think you should've taken time in school to learn to spell and not be so damn judgemental.

The Dunes National lakeshore ia a great destination. unfortunately people just repeat what they ehar about Gary or Marquette Park without experiencing it themselves.
The state needing to help Gary's economy is another topic, but the Dunes Lakeshore is a great destination. Holiday world is a tradition, and if you like amusement parks it is good. But for nature, hiking, and a great lake adventure, try the dunes.
And yes, the web site defaulted to other destinations

Sorry to say it but my wife and I both did not pick Holiday World via the computer voting. But Wala the computer automatically chose Holiday World anyway.

Apparently the ploy worked. If you ask me they should do the poll again just to verify the results were valid.

It IS beautiful up there, asides from the stench and the possibility of getting lost and going through the slums of Gary... If it had not been for the stench-I would have gone camping.

Best amusement park ??? I can tell you have never been to Cedar Point. That place makes any park in the midwest look like a dump and a joke. The Top Thrill dragster is just nuts, the Millenium force is awesome and the Maverick and Raptor which would rate at #3 and #4, would be the best rides at any park in the midwest.
Not everybody is a big coaster fan. Holiday World beats Cedar Point on the family oriented angle; its cheaper to get into, and you pay less once you're there (free drinks all day), and its closer to most points in Indiana, plus, the water park rocks. does cedar point even have a water park?
I've been to cedar point, and I loved the coasters there, but if I am taking my whole family (small kids), that's not the place to go.

Yes, Cedar Point has a water park. The only this is, you have to pay another hefty admission to get in.

So many negative comments concerning Indiana Beach. Indiana Beach is a great place.

The family owned park was bought by Morgan RV Resort two years ago. They spruced up the park and it's very clean. Indiana Beach is also non-smoking now (except for a small designated area). They have several ski shows daily as well as an impressive diving exhibition. They now have fireworks Friday and Saturdays all summer long. And it's FREE to get in. I agree that it's no Cedar Point in terms of roller-coasters, but the subject of the poll was attractions in Indiana.

So don't believe all the NASTY comments on here about Indiana Beach.
It isn't any more 'redneck' than Holiday World.
Just by making Indiana Beach non-smoking pretty much thinned out that crowd.

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Scorpio

Self-worship is easy and obvious, today. The real prize is when you turn from the mirror to see that others think just as highly of you. Take in all this love and amazement, and store some away for lean times in the future. Someone may give you an unexpected compliment later in the day, but don't let them know that it caught you off guard. After all, you still have your reputation as an egomaniac to uphold!
