Nice ideas. Would help, especially in more liberal churches that really do not meet the needs of the people (which evangelicals have done well, far better than the liberals).

However, just remember that Yeshua was not born in December, more likely about the the time of Rosh HaShonah (sept). This is a pagan holidy. Too bad Judaism did not have a holiday at this time. Gets too dark and we do need the lights and the party.

No, because homosexuality is a sin. We prefer to actually follow God's commands, thank you very much!

Tom Ehrich's "service" is as a false teacher, or, as the Bible calls it, an antichrist.

Ehrich's sacrifice is "zero." What possible sacrifice has this false teacher made?

Ehrich's "commitment" is to the ways of this broken world. He has made no commitment, and no sacrifice, to advancing the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The sad truth is that way too many people will actually listen to the anti-Bible, anti-God, anti-Christ clap-trap that this false teacher spews each week and will be led towards Satan instead of Christ.

That, friends, is a tragedy.

We did inherit sin, but don't tell that to the
'christians'-- sadly, many believe that in God's eyes, they're 'perfect'

Perhaps you misunderstood.

Tom,
In reference to the 2nd to last sentence:
Advent DOES connect Christ with Christmas. The ADVENT OF THE BIRTH OF OUR SAVIOR. Last week you said that you did not understand why we had to celebrate Advent just because it's on the liturgical calendar. So what, do you want to do the Christmas pagent before Christmas instead of Advent???

Perhaps the problem with the commercialization of Christmas is that we are teaching our children to be materialistic? I had one grandparent comment to me yesterday that children used to be happy with whatever their parents and grandparents could provide or gave them. Now they give parents and grandparents a laundry list of high-ticket items - iPhones, PS3s, etc.

Nice idea about meeting the needs of those who we want to come into the church. Unfortunately, the "needs" often involve telling them that God loves them and forgives them and accepts them as they are. We don't want to offend anyone by mentioning they need repentance and a relationship with a Saviour which requires a new way of thinking and acting. That would be too inconvenient.

Even the President of Duke University had apologized for the rush to judgment and other transgressions, in the false Duke "rape" case.

However:
WHERE IS ehrich's APOLOGY??

Comments from numerous readers in the past months, addressing the extraordinary lack of ethics of Tom Ehrich, are just as relevant today as they were then. Actually more. Please let Tom Ehrich's new employer/congregation/etc. know everything necessary about his disgusting breach of ethics, for which he has not apologized yet.

Past comments:

from Still Waiting

Mr. Ehrich, WHEN are you going to apologize for the last week's column, in which you have sinned most severely, not only against the tenets of Christian ethics, but also against elementary human decency?
The column, together with quite eloquent (and justified) comments, can be read here:

Before you respond and apologize, with a genuine feeling of repentance, feel free to NEVER EVER preach ANYthing to ANYbody. You are simply not entitled. I hope your congregation feels deeply ashamed now of the priest who presumes to represent it.

from Michael in Indianapolis
United States

Does anybody know where Tom's new job is going to be? I believe it would be really nice if somebody could inform his new congregation about Tom's transgressions against man and God. Even if they will be stuck with him for a while, it would be good for the good folks to know exactly, from the beginning, what kind of Judas they are dealing with and trust their spiritual life to. Thank you very much.

United States

Thanks for linking Mr. Ehrich's previous article. It's astonishingly ugly and wicked. That we still have such priests like those who shame the Catholic or the Episcopalian churches with their wickedness is very sad... I like going to church on Sunday morning... but how am I to tell that I won't be preached at by somebody of this lowest-of-the-low moral caliber? Somebody should do something about this sad, very sad situation.(...)

from Martin - Bloomington
United States

(...)Perhaps this "priest" should have remembered the biblical "Many have fallen by the edge of the sword; but not so many as have fallen by the tongue."

The original Ehrich-signed character-assassination could be read until recently at a now inactive link - possibly the Star has taken off that diabolical Ehrich concoction, at the culprit's wicked pressure.

However, the original slander can still be read at:

http://tinyurl.com/yttu2a

The responses to that horrible slander signed "Tom Ehrich" (61 of them!!) can be still read here, fortunately:

http://www.topix.com/forum/source/indianapoli ...

or (short link)

http://tinyurl.com/2z9lns

Has Tom Ehrich no sense of responsibility? No shame left? How does he believe that his readership can take him seriously anymore, before he apologizes?

We are still waiting, Ehrich.

Yes, we are. God commands us to strive for a sinless life, but of course we fail. That doesn't mean that we should intentionally sin and say it's OK.

This year, talk to someone about Jesus. When was the last time you explained the Gospel to someone?

Don't get caught up in complaining about the Christmas trees being called "holiday" trees. Don't look down on the people that come to church for Christmas, but not the rest of the year.

People are not our enemy. It's not Christians against everyone else. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12

As Christians we are supposed to be a light to the world. We can only be a light when we talk about Christ and when our actions are Christ-like.

We have all sinned against God. None of our "good deeds" will ever reconcile us with Him. We all deserve punishment, but luckily, Jesus took the punishment we deserve. All we have to do is accept the gift He has already purchased for us.

Merry Christmas to everyone! God bless you all!:)

When we forget the good news about all we can do is talk about the bad news. There is so much good to report at Christmas why would Christians discuss anything else.

What other season do we hear about Jesus and Mary and angels in every store and mall in the US? And, where else can we go in the world and hear so much about the things of God?

Negative people and negative ideas turn me off and most others. Let us do what people have done for two millennia-Rejoice!
