That site generated tons of taxes from all the people that visit the area Fight the tax or this will happen. It all starts with a .50 water tax
then a .75 road sur tax
then .25 police tax
then .50 fire dept tax
then .75 health inspector tax
then 1.00 sewer tax
then 2.00 carbon tax
then a .50 parking tax
then a .75 garbage tax
then a 2.00 local hotel tax
then a .50 food tax
then a .50 free drink tax
then a .50 suntan tax
then a .5 clothing tax.
Its all ok because they are from out of town. when they don't come anymore then pass the tax to the out of work locals

If a high quality amusement park was looking to build a new park near any city in Indiana, they would promise infrastructure to support it. Holiday World has made a very generous offer, the City should take it and do what needs to be done to support the future growth of Holiday World and any business that might look to locate near the town. Ever water system need periodic investments to increase capacity and keep the system modern. Your rates go up, then stay the same for years till the next investment. Grow up Santa People.

Ferdinand, Jasper, Huntingburg all within 25 miles of Santa Claus are nothing but factories you moron. Most of them are nationwide companies - some are international.
I bet you voted for Mitch Daniels...
Why can't you just state your opinion and leave it at that? If the person is wrong, provide the facts. Why include an insult to the writer, and another to everyone who supports the governor (who doesn't have anything to do with this issue)? A little decency, please.

This is sensationalistic journalism at its best. I live in Santa Claus and the town is not in an uproar as this story would lead you to believe.

The town is simply exploring options to plan for future water needs. Considering the recent water shortages plaguing many areas of the country and predictions of much worse ones in coming years, this type of planning is something more towns should be doing.

Santa Claus is a great town with great people. Come visit us for our big festival weekend on December 8th/9th and see for yourself.

They do recycle the water as much as possible. I was on a field trip with a professional organization to visit their facilities a couple of years ago and we got the behind the scene tour of the water distribution system, filtration units and water quality monitoring stations. It is a first class operation.
I'm kind of fuzzy on the purpose of the tax. If it is to pay for water rate increases, then it would seem that Holiday World would just raise their ticket prices to cover the increase in their cost for the utility, while they pay their share of the rate increase. The key seemed to me to be that portions of the tax collected would be distributed to other government entities in Spencer County and not just the local town. Is that because the rest of the county is on the same Patoka water system that Santa Claus and Holiday World are on?
RECYCLE! WOW! DID YOU KNOW THE ONLY CREEK THAT HAD RUNNING WATER IN IT WAS THE ONE RUNNING NEXT TO HOLIDAY WORLD? YES THE HAVE WATERLESS URINALS BUT THEY NEED TO FIX THEIR LEAKS. I THINK IDEM SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS.

THE TAX IS TO PAY FOR THE INFRUSTRUCTURE NEEDED TO SUPPORT THE VISITORS TO OUR TOWN. THIS WOULD COME IN THE FORM OF A LOCAL SALES TAX. HOLIDAY WORLD WILL NOT PAY 1 CENT. IN ONE DAY THE VISITORS OUT NUMBER THE TOWN CITIZENS BY 10 FOLD. WE WANT TO HAVE THING IN PLACE LIKE THE FOLLOWING:
1) EMERGENCY SIREN - CURRENTLY IT DOES NOT EXIST.
2) EMERGENCY SUPPORT - IE FIRE/POLICE/MEDICAL - TO DATE WE HAVE A FEW POLICE, VOLUNTEER FIRE, AMBULANCE SERVICE COMES FROM DALE IF IT IS NOT ON A RUN. SOUTH SPENCER IF DALE IS BUSY.
3) PAY FOR THE ROADS AND THE WATER SYSTEM THAT IS NEEDED TO DELIVER THE VOLUME HOLIDAY WORLD USES IN 6 MONTHS, WHICH EQUALS WHAT SANTA CLAUS, GENTRYVILLE, CHRISTNEY AND SANTA LA HILL ALL TOGETHER USES IN AN ENTIRE YEAR.

HOLIDAY WORLD TICKET PRICE HAS ALREADY BEEN UPDATED IN THEIR WEBSITE...A $2.00 INCREASE FOR NEXT YEAR....39.95 FOR 2008....WHICH IS MORE THEN KINGS ISLAND WHO IS GOING THROUGH THE SAME TAX ISSUE.

SOUTH SPENCER HAS THEIR OWN WATER SYSTEM.

I LIVE IN CLV...BEEN TO THE MEETINGS AND THE UPROAR IS BECAUSE HOLIDAY WORLD/TOWN OF SANTA CLAUS HAVE CONSPIRED AGAINST SANTA LA HILL AND THE CITIZENS OF SANTA CLAUS. THEY TRIED TO SNEAK A 65% RATE HICK PAST US AND YOU ARE FINE WITH IT?? YOU ARE CORRECT, THIS IS ABOUT GROWTH....YOU JUST LEFT OUT - HOLIDAY WORLD'S BEFORE GROWTH. CAN'T DENY HOLIDAY WORLD IS THE ONLY THING GROWING IN THIS TOWN. SURE WE HAVE GROWN ABOUT 10% WHILE HOLIDAY WORLD HAS HAD A 93% GROWTH IS WATER USAGE FROM PATOKA. ANY OTHER BUSINESS COMES TO TOWN TO BUILD - DENIED!

GROW UP? YOU HAVE GROSSLY UNDER REPRESENTED THE FACTS HERE. GET THE FACTS THEN COME BACK TO THE TABLE AND LETS DEBATE. ALL PEOPLE WANT - IS FAIR EQUABLE RATES. I GET 37% INCREASE - HOLIDAY WORLD GETS 13%....THAT IS A FACT.

Did anybody think that if they make it a head tax then everyone will know exactly how many folks visit the park ?? Those are numbers the Koch's should want to keep private. Hence the offer to donate a fixed sum. For the person who commented on the all the factories down there, how many have closed in the last 20 years ?? They are going away too. Meet in the middle for a "donation", but no head tax.
OVER 1 MILLION...THEY CLAIM.

WE TRIED THAT - HOLIDAY WOULD PULLED OUT. PINNING US TO THE WALL BECAUSE OF AN EDA GRANT AND STATE LOAN. SO WE PAY 37%- HOLIDAY WORLD PAY 13%.

It's incredible; none of the nearby towns to Santa Claus World would even exist without the theme park. The area is not exactly a hot-bed of manufacturing or technology! I would think doubling the residential water bill would be a welcome exchange.
Teddy,
you are kidding right. So you are close to the facts answer this.
how many fulltime employees are at Holiday World?
let me help.....
Answer 60...2% of the town...where are these poeple getting their Money? Jobs...where are these jobs?? Dale, Lincoln City, Jasper, Huntingburg, Rockport surrounding cities...the facts are what they are...here is one for you since Holiday World is helping the community. A kid from Fernand who has to ride the Holiday World bus to work, works for 4 hours. 6 bucks an hour the kid earns $24. The kid has to pay Holiday World $10 for the ride. the kid quit.

This Tax is to help the infrastructure to support our visitors. I agree with you a little, but look at the taxes you noted above....they are all already a tax in some form. This homey little 2000 residences town has to support 20,000 people who visit. Sorry, but HW is not paying enough taxes to cover the demand on our local government....not even close. Thanks for your comments

I have wanted to move to SC for a long time. We spent an enjoyable holiday there a few yrs back. The tax is not as bad as it sounds. SC and Holiday world have been there for how long??? Its time to update and may the Koch family continue to help give us and lots of children all the fun they should have. Hey, can I work at Holiday world??
