I'll start it out.
Does anyone remember going to the wrestling match that was held at the theater way back when. I'm thinking this would have had to have been in the early 60's. I remember going. Man were we big time. Going to the wrestling match in the city was a big item. I say kudos to JW Daniels for the effort he has shown over the years trying to make a living with different businesses he has successfully run over the years in business. He has been doing it a long time:). |

The skating rink was always a big time. In later years the Teen Scene was located next to where the skating rink was.

Great memories, so far! How about the what-a-burgers at John's Nic Nac Grill on the corner? I would give $100.00 for one right now!

The drive in that was in front of Bill Smith's store where the housing project is now. Lewis Johnson's grocery store beside Farmers Furniture when Farmers was uptown. Zaidee had two stores,Sand Hill Lake had boat shows and water skiing.great memories

What about the delicious homemade ice cream at Fowler's Freezer Locker? And the soda fountain at Mr. Meadie Williamson's Rexall Drug Store? I can still taste the Coca-Cola with real cherry in it!! And, the picture show where you could watch movies all Saturday afternoon and eat popcorn, drink Cokes and eat malted milk balls in the little boxes.

Those are wonderful memories. I love it. Keep them coming.
This is a later in the years, around the late 70's , but how about those little hamburgers people could buy. I forgot the name of them. But, they were really like a krystal. Does anyone remember the name of that place? It was located behind ivy park somewhere. |

was it brooks hamburgers i remember them well
|

I cant remember. Sounds right though... If it was in that vicinity, then I bet it was Brooks. Gosh, those were good hamburgers too. Thanks for the information.

Another thing that got me thinking - do you remember all those donkey basketball games that were held in the old gym?
Also, we use to get fairs to come to soperton. Havent heard of one down here in a long long while. |

Mr. Pompus Brooks owned the hamburger stand where he sold the mini burgers by the sack full. How about cruisin' the strip from the E-Z Way to the Tastee Freez and watchin' the guys peel out. Also, sitting around the courthouse, and in the parking lot across from the old Bank of Soperton building. There was also the "triangle" below the Tastee Freez where Smokehouse Barbeque is now. People used to sit there and talk and watch cars go by. Remember the cotton gins, one across from the E-Z Way where the Piglet is now, and the other one behind the old Fowler Freezer Locker, which now houses Soperton Farm Center.

I never knew there was a drive-in in Soperton.
The ice cream at Fowler's Freezer Locker was the best in town. Ya'll remember when you could buy fresh fish at Sherrod's Fish Mkt and the grocery stores were always busy on Thursday afternoon after the employees at the shirt factory got paid. In reference to the Brooks burgers I got in trouble one day by Mrs. Hall after returning to the high school with a bag of the Brooks burgers. A couple of friends and myself slipped out and ran down to pick up a bag. On the way back Mrs. Hall met us outside the school and inquired about the burgers. I told her that I had gone out to the truck to get them. She felt the bag and wanted to know why they were still hot. She did not believe me when I told her I had left them sitting on the engine which resulted in me losing driving priviledges for awhile. |

Brooks Burgers. I never would have remembered the proper name. Thanks everyone. And by the way ole stuff - mrs. hall use to scare me. lol That was one woman that had a bark worst then her bite, but she still scared me. Just her presence.
The ice cream at Fowlers was wonderful. I almost forgot about that. good memories for sure! Now that was small town clean living, wasnt it? Or it felt like it. I remember the corner cafe and all the older men use gather and talk. |

I remember as a kid, climbing tall pine trees and knocking down the green pine cones. Taking them by the bushel to Parkers Store(Parkerville) for spending money. Going to Harringtons dept. store and looking at all the candy in glass cases. Getting a scoop full of candy in a white paper sack. Climbing on all the parked trains in Soperton.

I remember at Mr. Sidney Sherrod's Fish Market you could get those wonderful red wax lips and the little wax bottles that looked like Coke that had "Kool Aid" in them. And, the candy cigarettes that looked like they were lit on the end.
I also remember the Post Office being where Soperton Pharmacy is today, and Mr. Webb's barber shop was across the alley from the post office, and next door to the barber shop was Red Ricks' grocery store. Then on the corner where Jennifer's flower shop is was Dr. A. J. Yates' office. You always knew when he was there because his gold Buick Riviera was out front in his reserved parking space! |

Ya'll are ringing some bells from long ago. I had forgotten about Harrels Table Supply being where Dennards is now.
Ya'll remember the Western Auto that was accross the road from there? At the other end of town I remember going into the Firestone Store during Christmas season and Mr and Mrs Webb would have all the toys and childrens stuff set up near the front of the store. That was always a big time. |
||||
|
Couple more - ya'll remember the Ford Dealership and a Chevolet dealership? Was it Cullins Ford or Cullins Chevolet?
|
||||
|
And don't forget Sumners Beach which was always a big time on a hot summer afternoon. I doubt if you could have a high dive these days like they had at Sumners Beach.
