I am a descendant of Simeon & Jessie B. Turley, my cousin and I are looking for family in New Mexico. Simeon was "married" to Maria Rosita Vigil y Romero and they had several children after her husband who was a sheep herder for Simeon died. We will be having a reunion in Missouri in June and would love to know what happened to our cousins. Please let me know if we are related, if you know our family or what happened to them after Simeon's murder during the Taos Revolt in 1847.

Hi cousin Darlene actually our grandmothers name on her birth certificate is Sarah Vigil (I have a copy given to me by Uncle Eddie). I just finished reading the book "The Taos Massacres" by John Durand it tells how Simeon Turley died. I was left wondering what happened to the family he left behind. I was excited to hear that the lady that bore his children was Rosita Vigil the book did not give her last name if anyone out there knows my e-mail address is dianamob6@msn.com

Hi Yvette,
My name is Diane Ortiz I live in Denver Colorado. My Grandmother whose birth name is Sarah Vigil and she was born in Capulin Colorado. A very small town in the San Luis Valley in Colorado. My grandmother is a decendant of Simeon Turley. I believe he was her great grandfather making us (me and my cousins) our third great grandfather also. My grandmother, Sarah married Eduardo Ortiz and they had 10 children which have all moved to Denver many years ago. I was told by my father that we were related to Turleys that lived in Taos NM but I didn't look into it until recently. I read the book The Taos Massacres and it left me wondering what happened to Simeon's family that were left behind after he was killed knowing that we came from them so I decided to look him up and I found this website that my cousin Darlene had responded to. I am amazed that Simeon has decendants in so many parts of the country. My grandmother's parents were Juan Vigil and Bibiana Valdez and she was born in 1894. I don't know how it was that they ended up in Colorado although the valley is not far from New Mexico. If you have any information about the children Simeon left behind I would be interested in learning more about our history. It is nice to meet you Yvette I hope we can keep in touch. Diane

Hi Diane (cuz). According to my now deceased Aunt Gertrude, my Grandmother was adopted by my Grandfathers (Sarah's husband) family. Vigil was her adopted name and but is still our family because my Grandfather is blood related to the Vigil's. My Grandmothers adopted parents is my Grandfathers aunt and uncle. Back then when you were adopted they put the adopted's family name on the birth certificate. Simeon Turley is my Grandmothers Sarah's blood grandfather+. I have been trying to follow the history for a very long time. I also read the book "The Taos Massares" when I was in high school but Lord have mercy that was a long time ago. Glad to meet you Becky, Seth, Adrian and Yvette we are all cousins. Seth, my cousin Rita not to long ago visited The Turley Mill in Taos. You may have met her. Hopefully one day I can take my mom to see where her great+ grandfather. You have lotz of cousins in Colorado for sure.

Don't worry I don't go to the family reunions either. A certain person makes sure I don't go to those anymore. You know who I'm talking too. I will not know who my cuz's are anymore. Grandma wanted this family to stay together but it takes one to tear it apart. I miss you too.. I also checked into Grandpa's background. His fathers name was Juan Ortiz and his great great grandfathers name was Juan Ortiz who came over on the DeSoto ship. You remember the Pochantas story. Browse it on the internet.. You will be surprised. For our family to be so rich in history we ended up being poor.. Go figure!!! We had millions of Gold out there, we owned part of Cleveland Ohio and can't even claim it. wow. I guess that was God's plan. I am rich in his faith. Love you.

Hey, It is sooo good to hear from you. I would really like to see you. We are your family and we love you too. We had so many good times together growing up I wish that you would reconsider going to the picnic this year and I will make an effort to go also. Time is racing by and we should keep in touch. There is no one who can separate you from us you are family don't let one person keep you away. I barely found out you were married I would love to meet your husband I hope he does right by you. I am sorry it took so long for me to read this I will check this website more often. I would love to find out more about our history. It is fascinating to know what our history is. I didn't know about
Grandpa that is quit impressive. We truly are "natives' from a long line of rich American history. I will look in to that. I always wonderer about that treasure they used to go in search of every so often long time ago I wonder if it was ever found. I do not believe it is God's will for us to be poor I believe it was stolen from us somewhere along the way and one day God will restore it back to us. Well cuz it is great to be able to communicate with you. I love and miss you take care. Hope to see you soon

By the way only the last three children of Rosa Romero y Vigil were Turleys children and they never were named Turley since he never married Rosa.

Hi everyone,
I'm a PhD student in archaeology at Southern Methodist University (SMU), Dallas, TX. My dissertation revolves around Turley's Mill. I've been in Taos all summer working at the mill and I plan on returning every summer for several more years (at least!). I'm interested in talking to descendants about the Mill, so please email me if you want to know more about the work we've done so far and about the work we're going to do out there in the future. My email address is albertdgonzalez --at-- gmail.
Also -- SETH, I live in McKinney too. We should meet sometime!

Albert: I am a descendant of Jesse B. Turley, who with his brother, Simeon, ran the Mill. My cousins and I will be in Taos next week (August 4-9) and I would like to talk with you. Will this be possible?

Confusion reigns supreme today, especially when dealing with financial matters. You could get into a muddle when sorting out your accounts or when working out how much you owe someone, even though you may not notice this at the time. It certainly isn't the day for parting with large sums of money because the chances of something going wrong are very high.
