I saw the parade of squads with the sirens going. It was awesome. Not often we can say something good about the police in this area. This is one time when we can.

Kudos to the Police for interaction with youth. Next year lets do it again without breaking the law on Siren usage in NM. Driving Kids around in Police cars with inappropriate and illegal usage of sirens with total disregard is certainly FUN and engaging but disrespectful to the law and anyone that tries to live,rest and thrive here in Siren City NM. Looking forward to next year without the sirens.....riding in a law enforcement car is still a thrill.

66-7-6. Authorized emergency vehicles.

A. The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle, when responding to an emergency call or when in pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law or when responding to but not upon returning from a fire alarm, may exercise the privileges set forth in this section subject to the conditions stated. The chief of the New Mexico state police or the appropriate local agency may designate emergency vehicles and revoke the designation. When vehicles are so designated, they are authorized emergency vehicles.

B. The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may:

(1) park or stand, irrespective of the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Code [Articles 1 to 8 of Chapter 66, except 66-7-102.1 NMSA 1978];

(2) proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as necessary for safe operation;

(3) exceed the maximum speed limits so long as he does not endanger life or property; and

(4) disregard regulations governing direction of movement or turning in specified directions.

C. The exemptions granted to an authorized emergency vehicle apply only when the driver of the vehicle, while in motion, sounds an audible signal by bell, siren or exhaust whistle as reasonably necessary and when the vehicle is equipped with at least one lighted lamp displaying a red light visible under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of five hundred feet to the front of the vehicle, except that an authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police vehicle need not be equipped with or display a red light visible from in front of the vehicle.

D. This section does not relieve the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons nor does it protect the driver from the consequences of his reckless disregard for the safety of others.

Kids with no seatbelts! A blatant violation of NOISE ORDINANCE way too much sirens. Atleast the cops can show the kids a good time, cause most here couldnt solve an 8 piece child puzzle. How sad!

You thought they became cops to shoot their guns? It has always been the sirens. It is cultural. Like the fireworks.

Wow.....don't blame the officers this is a Law Enforcement management issue with all local Law enforcement. They need to review use of sirens when by law thay are not allowed except driving under an emergency. Great program though, just tweak it without sirens.

Oh give me a break we can shut down a whole town for the new age hippie tour of the Gila and inconvienace everyone for days. But five whole minutes of giving a few kids a good memory gets everybody in a uproar. I have spoken with some of these chlildren in the past years and to some of them being the center of attention and hearing those sirens was one of the best parts to them. I even spoke to one Officer who allowed the child to be the one to work the siren and the child was so pumped up he could barely speak. So Siren City go stick your head in a bucket and get a life. Remember its named CHRISTmas for a reason and children are the lsat known true sign of innocence in this world. So if it makes a child happy for even only a minute and you mad for a year, well then I say go for it. Don't get me wrong I was down town and the sirens were loud and annoying but unlike you cry babys when I saw that it was for the children I got over it and so should you! To all of the law enforcement who participated thank you and hears to you getting bigger and louder speakers next year!!!!!
