Living in the wild wild west. Us older folks don't have a problem with protecting ourselves against the dirt bag scum that tend to prey on older people. Read the NRA articles every month that tell you how many people have been able to protect themselves with force.

Gun safety starts in the home. I suggest all concealed permit holders look upon themselves as teachers and instructors to others, especially children. My gun education started as a small child and my first gun was a .22 rifle. At 7 I was regularly hunting ducks with a small bore shotgun. My first pistol was at 9 years old. I began teaching gun safety to my siblings and others in my teens and have managed to educate quite a few people in the last 55 years. I am relentless in my education and never let a lapse in safety go unannounced. Primarily; "All guns are loaded" "Each time you accept a gun in your hands you must check to see if it is loaded" "The bullet comes out of this end and where you point this end determines your elegibility to handle a gun"

There is a lot you can impart to others if you become a truly responsible gun owner...TEACH !

Everything you stated in your post is exactly right, as a certified NM Hunter Education Instructor and NRA certified instructor for Home Defense, Shotgun, Range Safety Officer and to many others to list. We used to have the Eddie Eagle program here in Silver but it has, like a lot of other things gone by the wayside. Very important to start the education young. Hunting, Fishing, and 4H opportunities to young folks keep them off the street and teaches them a sense of responsibility that they use for the rest of their life. I have had kids come up to me on the street and show me pictures of the animals that they harvested. I'm now starting to see the second generation of some of the kids I have instructed. Guns don't kill people, it's the person holding the gun.

Guns don't kill people, bullets do. Most of the time, it's someone known to the shooter.

Is this the only study that you can quote? Stating that firearms harm people is like saying automobiles hurt people. The fact remains that people, especially in this country, have a choice. Some will make poor choices with the tools that they have. Training and education goes a lot further than restricting access.

All the experts agree, gun control is an excellent idea. . you know the experts. . like, Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Fidel Castro. . . it is an excellent means of procuring absolute control of the masses and stripping them of their individual freedoms. . .Guns do not make murderers, CULTURE makes murderers. . address the sicknesses in our culture and society that breed violence and anger, address the root causes of violence, and you can kill the disease. Guns are not and never have been the root cause. but they sure are nice to have in a SICK society to protect oneself.
