It appears that they only way a murder in Grant County can be solved is if they get a confession from the suspect. It is very sad, especially for the families of the victims to go on for so long with nothing resolved. It might be time for the local law enforcement to ask for assistance because it seems like they are in over their heads.

Santa Clara, Bayard, North Hurley, Hurley are war zones these days...The Sheriff's and State Police need to start helping out more over there.

I totally agree. Look at what David and Andrea Munoz got away with for years, while she worked for CYFD. Doesn't anyone hold David accountable and he works for NMDOT?

Yeah - it's like the judges around here are afraid to hurt somebody's feelings. They let way too many criminals walk, with only a slap to the wrist. You do the crime, you should do the time. These low lifes aren't going to learn, because they are never held responsible. Their mothers didn't hold them responsible, their teachers didn't hold them responsible, and now our judges aren't holding them responsible. If they aren't already cooking up a new scheme to steal from others, it won't be long.....

I live down the street and came home just in front of the police cars. This is very disturbing for what is ususally a very quiet neighborhood. Yes, the judges are too lenient, and also the DA, and too many of our police officers have relatives they won't arrest or prosecute.

I often walk the streets of Central carrying an AK-47 and wearing a Kevlar vest because it is so dangerous with the bullets flying everywhere. Get real Madparent, if you want dangerous try the War Zone in San Diego, or Compton

I am from LA and at least the laws were enforced. so dont be suprised when the more criminal people move here. Because once the word gets on how they can get away with "murder", "selling drugs" shooting and "aggravated battery" ..Grant county will be the first place they move. Why not? any idot would be a fool to move else where. Our judges should just post a sign on the internet and on the Interstate.."Do the crime, serve no time!!!" Silver is a joke!!
just curious

The only joke in Silver are the people in charge who do not want to have their family look bad, on both sides of the boarder.

How sad for both these families...

Did this father in law do something that bad to deserve to die from his son in law beating him? Tell us "wait and see"! There is only one reason i would beat someone like that. Hope its not what i think?:(

How can they help any more than functioning as Santa Clara PD? The GCSO has been running back and forth to Santa Clara for two years now. Santa Clara PD needs to be disbanded and that Village needs to be forced to contract with the County if they want law enforcement in their community. Besides -- What about all the residents in the unincorporated county areas -- That is the Sheriff's primary area of responsibility. Last time it was published, the "Chief" of Santa Clara PD earned over $70,000.00 -- For WHAT?

People are tired of the county picking up the tab for an incorporated jurisdiction which has its own "Police Department" with a Chief, Officers and a budget of their own!

Assisting them is one thing -- being used & abused is another.

$70,000 was the OLD Chief of Santa Clara, Paul Jasso.

And those small towns CANT afford to pay for a full time force, or disband it, and have no patrols of those ghetto areas. Those unincorporated areas DONT have enough people in them to constitute a strong Sheriff's department presence(the gila, upper mimbres, etc.)...Instead of sending deputies to the middle of nowhere to patrol patches of weeds, they need to be patrolling the HIGH CRIMES area. And guess what genius, those small incorporated towns are HIGH CRIME for the number of citizens they have in them. But you'd rather have deputies stationed in the middle of nowhere where the only signs of life are rabbits and deer right?

The newspaper has to get the facts straight...the "man" (I use this term loosely) is not the murdered victem's son-in-law. In fact he is not related. He is the son of the victem's "girlfriend" (using this term very loosely!)

If I were a member of the family...I would ask for a correction/retraction of the story!!

Right, if I'm paying for it. What makes YOUR rights/needs more important than others simply because they reside in a rural area? You have a very limited memory -- there are three currently unsolved homicides that occurred in "The middle of nowhere where only the rabbits and deer..." are! Santa Clara PD seems well-funded to work traffic on the highway, but conveniently are out-of-service otherwise. I guess those who live in the county should just shut up and pay out with no questions asked when THEY need a cop. By the way, I believe Mimbres' population outnumbers that of Santa Clara (and maybe Hurley combined).

The rights of the Tim Edwards Family, The Rachael Sierra Family and the Joey Moreno Family were violated. Should they expect to sit back and shut up as you might suggest?
