I'm not going to justify any of the actions that took place the night Aziz passed until the whole story comes out. But for Aziz to participate in the actions that supposedly took place seems so out of character for a person that I had a lot of respect for and admired. I would not say I'm a great friend of Aziz, but I am a friend and everyone I saw him with were treated with the same respect. Something out of the ordinary was going on that night and the cops quick decisions did not positively affect a situation that seemed to be out of the control of Aziz.

You will be dearly missed Aziz. I'll never forget those delicious tacos you made for me, the awesome show you put on at the Catalyst, and the free Rockers pizza you shared with everyone after the show. I always remember the great guy you were and I hope your reputation isn't ruined with the ensuing mess ahead. RIP

I am sorry for the families that has to go through this. It is very difficult for people to comprehend what had happened. We are so lucky to have well trained law enforcement protect others and have the tools to protect themselves. I hope the officers and their families will be able to pull together and come out of this traumatic incident without any real harm to their personal lives.

Ignorant people like those that have posted on this forum should look deep inside and realize they have no right commenting about such a great person! The problem with this world is judgemental people such as these. Aziz will be loved and missed by so many in this community. Think before you post a negative comment. Think about who may be reading these posts, and who you may hurt.

You will be sorely missed Aziz. I hope that what ever drove you to this point is uncovered and that the events that led to your death are investigated fairly. It's hard to see such a bright youth fade before his time. Rest in peace.

...for clarification....my comment was cynical. It used to be that the LAST line of action for police was to shoot to KILL. Instead, these days, it seems any strong provocation is enough to KILL someone. Then again, knowing this, why any young man would put himself in a position like this is beyond me.

Not having the whole story doesn't help. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.

Sentinel, if you're going to censor certain offensive comments, you should censor all offensive comments, including those that approve of killing a human being.

Killing a person because he stabbed a police dog is COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE. Police rage needs to be stopped immediately. If the people stabbed are out of the hospital, this means their wounds were not serious, which even makes this police murder more appalling. Eight shots against a person without possession of a firearm? CROOKED COPS!

I knew Aziz. Aziz was a great guy and, based on the behavior described in this article, his actions were way out of character on the night he was shot. He had an incredible sense of humor, good judgment, and intellect, so I highly suspect autopsy findings to reveal some substance in his system, which most-likely was not taken willfully. Secondly, why didn't the police employ a taser to subdue Aziz? He was presumably carrying a knife, not a gun. Wouldn't a taser be a more appropriate tool for taking him into custody and determining why he was acting so erratically? This is a sad story, which requires some serious independent thought and investigation.

People are quick to judge the officers actions. Lets see..Stab two people(friends), break windows and into a house. Act as though you are cranked out, and all the family and friends cry foul...pathetic.

Obviously someone called th police because this guy was a danger to himself, his friends, and everyone around. Sorry but the problem is his actions which led the police to defend themselves and protect the innocent.

I am sorry for all involved...but lets look at what the beginning actions were.

When does it become okay to brandish any kind of weapon? If you put yourself in a position to attack others and EXPECT to not have extreme force used against you. Sounds more like a case of suicide via cop, rather than murder. Yeah, he was a "good guy," and had a lot of "friends," but in the end, he is the one that put himself in the line of fire.

If you feel the need to lay blame for a a needless death, lay it at the feet of the person that set the chain of events in motion.

All of the people leaving negative comments need to stop. You don't know what went down. How would you feel, if one of your friends for one reason or another freaked out and was shot eight times by cops because he had a knife. If someone slipped you something and you freaked wouldn't you want help, thats what Aziz wanted, not to be shot eight times.

The link above is an article that is currently in the Sentinel about a Santa Cruz man who was ARRESTED for brandishing a knife around 2pm near the Boardwalk and the beach flats. This man also had a prior criminal record. It wasn't his first time harrassing people with a deadly weapon. This man eventually made his way to Pacific Ave (which is a main street that has a lot of traffic- both cars and pedestrians). When at gunpoint by the police and told to lay down, he refused. The officers then TASERED him. After that, he complied and was arrested. A canine was not released on him nor were there 8 shots fired by police, killing him.
Aziz had no prior criminal record or history of disturbing the peace. This particular night was an exception, but there are many theories as to what got into him and why the events panned out the way they did. I'm basically saying that there need to be consistencies within Police procedures. That doesn't seem to be the case though.
It is very unfortunate, but what happened cannot be changed. We can just pray for Aziz's family and hope that justice is served, however that may be.
To those who are being disrespectful or insensitive, please understand that there are people who knew and loved Aziz reading this, questioning how all of this happened. It has only been a few days since his passing, so any negative or hurtful comments are poking at an open wound.
Sleep well, Aziz. Your talents will never go unappreciated.

It's a shame. Someone must have slipped some heavy drugs in his drink or something. Can't really blame the cops. The dude was full on crazy at the time.

I have known and worked with Aziz for the past few years
and let me just say that He was one of the nicest people I knew!

Always had a smile on his face,
Always decent honest & hardworking.

When I heard of his untimely passing and the events that proceeded,
I was both shocked and outraged!

A kind, genuine human being; shot and murdered by the police!

I truly feel that there was more that could have been done.

There's not much talking to a guy running around crazy stabbing friends and police dogs! And running through glass windows. Sounds like P.C.P. to me.

The police officers did their job before someone else
was badly injured or killed by this "rapper."

My respect is for the officers who were forced into a split second decision. Hopefully they will be treated with respect they deserve, but I doubt it. No wonder no one wants to be peace officer anymore, sad. You can way more money being a "rapper."

Good job Santa Clara Police. You stopped him before it got worse. Hope the police dog recovers from his wounds and is retired.

"If you feel the need to lay blame for a a needless death, lay it at the feet of the person that set the chain of events in motion."

We know Aziz. We're his friends, family, co-workers, labelmates, group members. If Aziz was on PCP, it wasn't willingly.

And if it wasn't willingly, then that makes him a victim too, regardless of the crimes he committed subsequently. So let's all find the person who slipped it to him and lay the responsibility of this tragedy squarely on their shoulders.
