I have a real hard time with this story. Because all of it is true. We took this land from the indians by force and broke treaty after treaty with them. Then we promised to take care of them with reservations and health care. Looks like we broke another promise. This just shouldn't be. Congress do your duty and give them health care, real health care.

Could anyone direct me to this family of Ta'Shon Rain Little Light, the little girl who died from cancer. I read where the family was going to do a slide show of her plight to get her story out there. I would love to help them in doing this as I do slide shows commerically and I would volunteer our services if they would like to make contact with us at cndmedia@cndmedia.com

Thank you

I doubt very seriously that whomever signed this treaty expected we would pay billions of dollars every year for Indian Health Care (2010 budget in excess of 4 billion). You say "we" took their land? I didn't take their land, I have paid for every piece of land I have ever owned and I am also paying for Indian Health Care. This treaty was signed in 1787, it is time to put it to bed and let the Indians pay for their own health care, especially the tribes who own casinos. We have all had to accept changes, I was told when I started my job 30 years ago my health care would carry into retirement, not the case any longer. The Unions expected the same thing but they are taking less. Maybe the Indians got the shaft 222 years ago, but it really has nothing to do with us today, the land has been paid for a hundred times over in the past two hundred years. Time for the Indians to go to work and pay their health care like the rest of us.

Congress, do your duty and say enough is enough, if we are tied to this contract, then provide them with the same level of health care that was available when they signed the contract. I for one am tired of my tax money paying for something that happened 222 years ago.

I'm not here to debate the political aspect of Native American Healthcare. We are Native Americans and it was our understanding when the casinos came in, this would help with the tribes who owned and operated the casinos. Well, that isn't happening. I have to pay for everything I get at our healthcare facility. The casino is right across the street, bringing in an average of $280,000 every 24 hours and it's a small casino. I know this because I worked in the vault and was responsible for the count. So, the Native American must learn to deal with their own casino money and find out where it goes. I know the council members have big salaries. Why>>>>>> >

But I'm still interested in the little girl mentioned in my first post and would love to have her family get in contact with us.

It's only fair that if the American Indians have lousy gov't-run health care, all of us Americans should also soon have lousy gov't-run health care. No one should be better than anyone else. Thank you Obama

I would like for the reporter of this article, MARY CLARE JALONICK, to respond to me with a citation for the 1787 treaty that promised free health care. I would like to go to the source document and see what it says.
Thanks,

What a sad story, but not surprising, as look at how many treaties were broken - casinos don't make up for taking the homes, culture and religion of many people and offering them crap for it, then not even giving that to them! SO very sad....

<quoted text>
When was the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights signed. Fact is, maybe those rights that you hold so dearly should be taken from you, because they were signed in the 1700's. What price do you put on all the soldiers lives who have given you your rights. As a people we have the responsibility to help the Native Americans. Have you ever been to these reservations? I have, it's depressing. We can afford to give 20 million illegal immigrants free medical, that we all are paying for, why not the first Americans.

How about the Treaty giving the Black Hills to the Native Americans? Some white man trespassed and found gold. They were booted from their land. Native Americans revered the land. Not rape and exploited it. What did the brave General Custer do, sneak into their camps at night and kill men women and children. After being defeated at Little Big Horn the Seventh Calvary flag was captured, while migrating though the Pine Ridge Reservation, the new Seventh Calvary ambushed these Native Americans which at that point consisted of only, women, children, old men and women. Only one survived and that was a baby because her mother fell on her shielding her from bullets. The Col. in charge took the child into his home, but was never treated the same as his own children. When this girl died she was taken back to Pine Ridge and buried with the rest of the ambushed Native Americans. Check your history, this is true. To this day, as Americans when we want something we take it. If we think there is injustice we fight for it. Lets start fighting for something worth while. Not other peoples civil wars and their freedoms. How about the Billions of dollars we send to Mexico and other countries to curb their hunger and provide medical care. LETS START AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!

Health care sucks for everyone except illegal immigrants. What insurance won't/doesn't cover must be paid for out of pocket for most people.
What I really don't understand is why these people rely only on free health care. They should better themselves so that they can get screwed like the rest of us.

Sorry for the kid, but Obumma intends for EVERY ONE to get the same level of care this child did.

Socialized medicine is a joke, just ask all the Canadians who come here for medical care.

Any onr that thinks the government can run health care effectivly has not been paying attention to ANY THING the government has run, the only place they run anything is into the ground.

Thank you for being willing to donate your time, it is nice to see someone willing to put their money where their mouth is.

If all my money was not tied up in poverty, I would be happy to donate some.

Any thing else I can do to help though.....

If health care for Native Americans is a federal program and is in such poor shape, never has enough money, and is run by incompetency, why would anyone think that socialzed medicine for the rest of us would be any different?
