Have you heard the news? Theres new information that DebraLee Hovey added additions onto her home without ever filing for building permits, and she's not even paying taxes on those additions! Town Hall was notified, and now she's under investigation by the Town of Monroe... How can anyone trust a women that lies to the Government and to the people! She talks about transparency and honesty to the people, where was the honesty during all this? Shameful!

I wonder if she will try and cover this up until the election is over? She has friends on Planning and zoning and the First Selectman. I wonder if this has anything to do with the R's demanding that somebody be fired at town hall. One of her biggest supporters is on Planning and zoning - PO. Abuse of power - just another day in Monroe.

As a Newtown voter in the 112th District, I urge Monroe officials to investigate these alligations on Monday, October 25th. If Mrs. Hovey is innocent, she deserves an apology. If she has committed the violations asserted in these postings, voters need to know before the November 2ed election. I want to know.

It is true. A call came into town hall. Apparently she had her entire basement area converted to an apartment including a very luxurious bathroom - and never took out any permits so the has been avoiding any increase in her house assessment. She did not let the assessment company inspect her house during this past re-evaluation. Was never home and failed to make an appointment with them. Well how do you like that. Mrs. Pure, Fair, Hardworking, Loyal, Committed to the People turns out to be a big fat tax CHEAT!!!!! She has failed to pay her fair share of taxes in Monroe - and she is our elected representative.

Ms. Hovey you are about to be exposed big time.

This is serious. If Mrs. Hovey is innocent she should respond to this. Since the planning and zoning is controlled by POH I'm sure this will be buried. The FS is too clueless to even realize anything is going on besides a wrestling match on pay per view. Funny how Vavrek sent out an email endorsing Hovey using the town list-serve. Why should tax payer dollars be used for Vavrek to send emails out to the community endorsing a candidate. A Vavrek endorsement is probably good for the Democrats, Vavrek has no support except from the town crazies.

The only town crazies I see are you and those wish ignore that Monroe pays a higher average salary then all surrounding towns for 6 years in a row. And you are here complain about the cost of postage instead? What BS
Its clear from your attacks that you are a Democrat and your BS tactics are a disservice that make other Democrats and Ms Mount look bad. After seeing your attitude I would vote for anyone you try to discredit.
I have shocking news that your ego wont allow, but the taxpayers are smarter then you give them credit for and can see you for what truly you are.

Vavrek also broke the Town's Ethics code, and BoE/Town Charter policy. The Charter states that Town Resources cannot be used to endorse any candidate, and thats exactly what he did, and since ListServ belongs to the BoE, he also broke BoE policy because the BoE cannot endorse any candidate either. What a joke, the man is an embarrassment to this Town, and will get us into lawsuits sooner than later. Hovey broke the law, plain and simple, and for a woman who speaks miles on the importance of taxation reform, she obviously doesn't see the point in upholding the laws of taxation.

All of these things about Hovey are easy to prove. An actual complaint was put in by Hovey about a neighbor and Hovey was wrong, and this started months ago. You can check file in Inland Wetlands. Also public info on her tax info says she only pays on a 2 bedroom and 1 bath house, all public info. Also no building permits on record regarding 3 bedrooms and bath downstairs (her stepkids bedrooms) Anyone who has been in her house knows it's there. And there is documented proof that the assesor, building dept and zoning offical are investigating. Interesting casue Vavrek said all compliants must be immediately investigated. My money is on a Vavrek coverup. Vavrek is lying through his teeth when he says Hovey attends meetings, again everyone who goes to them knows she is never there and Mount always is. Is this political, duh ... it is an election, the public has the right to know if someone who is running doesn't obey the laws. You can bet if it was Mount, Republicans would be screaming about it and doing robo calls.

Let me get this straight, Monroe lacks sewers, no trash service, a weak tax base, high taxes, a very weak tax base and pays its teachers a higher average salary then all surrounding towns for 6 years in a row? And you are here playing politics to gain some advantage over the opposite party. And you all see that as being better? Wow that sad.
Here an idea, why not address the real problem of Monroe. And show you have a better and fairer plan for the future, rather then shoveling this political BS.
Personally I don't care about how many bedrooms anyone has or who owes postage or who neighbors doesn't like who. Or who did what at their house without a permit. This is nothing more then throwing mud and solves nothing.
If any political party thinks this type stuff makes them better then the other, that in itself is sad and shows no real vision or plan and is lame at best.
The taxpayers deserve better.

Man you're like the annoying fly on the windshield. Yes we get it, you aren't happy with how things are. However, I also seem to recall on the other thread someone, or actually multiple people, offered you an explanation to your "irrefutable evidence", of which you quickly denounced. Its all about the person you elect...you want more of the same, then vote for the same people, but if you want change, bring in a new face. Monroe did not approve the sewers, or opt to have trash service, or build up a tax base because the same party has been in the majority seat for over 25 years. Sure, we've had a D FS for 11 years, but every board and commission was and is Republican controlled. You want things to change, then vote them out. The State Rep. seat has been R since the early 80's, look what its done to help Monroe.

Frankly, all of this convinces me more not to vote for Hovey, or any incumbent for that matter. A woman who evades paying taxes, who obviously is spewing only rhetoric, and also has no clear vision nor anything new to offer Monroe should not be sitting in a seat of power. Thats my opinion, but you're probably going to go off on Teacher Salaries again...

FYI, its not the salaries you're angry about, its the effect it has on your wallet. If there was no effect on your wallet, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have the same position towards the salaries. You want the effect to go down, vote somebody in who plans on reforming the Property Tax system, and plans to build up the tax base, that would get more results than hoping to beat the union in arbitration or taking funding away from the kids during budget season.

Holy cow, here's what will happen. She'll get a building permit, pay the appropriate fees, the addition will get a CO, taxes will be adjusted accordingly and that will be that. This kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. Now find the next proxy server, create another name and post to yourself again.

So it doesn't bother you that she deliberately cheated on her taxes???? You must be a friend of hers. She probably tried to avoid re-doing her septic to accomodate the additional bedrooms and bath. I believe it costs a pretty penny to do that. The bottom line is she asks others to pay their taxes, but is unwilling to do it herself. This is a character issue.

She is an elected tax cheat. She would have done nothing about it if she had not been exposed. She is an elected, sitting, tax cheat official. What a title!!!!!!

What has Hovey done for Monroe? She voted against education reform. Voted against children with Autism. But she lobbied for the Horse-Guard. If you want more of the same then re-elect her. What has she done for Monroe? Hovey is never at any town meetings unless she is running. Wake up Monroe! All these people constantly complaining about taxes keep putting the same people back in office.

Well after 5 years she is going to finally pay taxes. Unless this came out she would have gone on cheating on her taxes and living like she is above having to get building permits like everyone else.

Wait let me get this straight. IF Monroe taxpayers pay millions over six years more then we should to the teachers that it's no big deal?????
But if Ms Hovey doesn't pay enough property taxes that's a major crime?
See that the difference between us, you are interested in making taxpayers pay more, I am interested in paying less or getting more for what we do pay and making sure the taxpayer is getting treated fairly.
I believe in personal freedom and fairness and you believe in a collective rip off of taxpayers. And you claim I am annoying? LOL
You choose to ignore the teacher salary issue and the taxpayers paying more then they should, which is telling, yea there is no bias there, but attack Ms Hovey over a few dollars and a permit?
Bye the way Shakedown is 100% correct this happens everyday in every town.
And everyone is going to deny that politics isn't playing a part in this? Oh sure.
I do like Ms Mount intention to address the property tax issue. Would be great if she really gets it done?
But Ms Hovey does have a real point about the rate of increasing teacher salaries and performance, because just changing the way we fund education does not eliminate the problem of salaries out pacing what ever funding source we end up with. Without it the taxpayers are only open to more abuse.
What we need is someone that will do both fairly and really take action. No matter who wins they better understand that taxpayers will not settle for less.

5 years - WOW. I expect she will be paying back 5 years of assessment taxes with interest????

Also, Vavrek, I'm watching what is going on at the Parks & Recreation and appropriate action better be forthcoming falsifying overtime records is criminal - if you get my message and oh by the way you better start looking into other town hall offices who are doing a little fasifying as well - or else that explosive situation will soon hit the air waves.

Do you realize this sort of thing happens all the time? I'm not dismissing it, but do you really think that this is some sort of felony?!? People do work without permits ALL THE TIME. I don't know her, don't think she's done much of anything for monroe which I've said in previous posts, but do you really think that this amounts to anything? I'm sure that everything you've ever done in your life was perfect. Ever pay cash for something? Hell, if I can find a way to save some of my own money from the taxman I go for it. Do you own your own business? Do you report every dime you make? Every deduction is spot on? If so thats a first. C'mon, be honest.
