it looks more like they did an adequate job at best, without a civilian tipping them off he may well have still been at large. i don't think a lot could be drawn from this without a lot more data, and it sure seems like a mountain was made out of a molehill, the good news is the perp is caught and nobody got harmed and that should be a relief to everyone.
A mountain out of a molehill?! A man with a gun threatened one of the citizens in our community then evaded police buy running through peoples backyards. I consider that to be an extremely dangerous situation.
A bad guy got away. Less than twenty-four hours later the good guys have him in jail.
Your refusal to acknowledge a job well-done makes you sound a lot like AV.

Well said. Good job by Sheriff Mitchell, but more specifically, good job to the deputies on the job.

If you all think this was a good job then no wonder our government is stinking up the place. They do not get a pass just because they are law enforcement. This was a piss poor use of resources - not blocking off Country Club and only the highway is good policing??? Well, the proof is in the pudding! If they had blocked CC then he couldn't have been able to run up 11th, down Country Club to 9th and then into the creek. We had just gotten back from Rainbow Ag and went up 12th to CC to 9th and I told my husband 'how stupid is this, block off 20 but not CC'. Then my neighbor indeed confirmed how stupid it was.

Must be nice to waste money like there is no tomorrow - but it's all good if it's LE doing it. I might feel that way if I thought they'd be the number I'd call if if the ship hit the sand. They're actually at the bottom of the list. Now, if I ever come into a huge pot of taxdollars that need frittered away - they'd be on speed dial.

This is right out of the fundy-con playbook. Scare the voters. Well, we're scared alright - OF THE STATUS QUO!

I await the busting of the chops by the usual anonyMOUSE Rod supporters. If you're so proud of your boy Rod - double dog dare ya to stand behind him in the broad daylight and post under your own name.

Some people will whine if they are hung with a new rope (rope burns).
No matter, those of us who care about our community(not spinning a political agenda) appreciate the efforts of our Sheriffs Dept.

BTW Donna. My intitials are there for you to see.
Figure it out.

Who needs cops when we have Donna? Get rid of the dogs and helicopters too. We can send her after the criminals and she can give them a good tongue lashing.

Not a bad idea - after all, the folks at this end of 9th were the closest to the guy than ANY of the folks in their official capacity at that moment in time. Or any moment in time till after 12 hours had passed. Three of us could have done it sans dogs, copters etc.

DUH - I'm not playing a game with you. You either believe in what you post and stand by it for all to see or you don't. You're the only that can summon the courage of your convictions.

Okay, so the count is now 2 anonyMOUSE postings by Rod's crew. My take is post #28 is the same poster as #27. Unless there is proof otherwise. In which case I'll gladly amend the count to 3.

Donna you can't say that if they had blocked country club he would not have gotten away. Bad guys run, sometimes they get away. In this case the good guys, yes compared to the tweekers they are the good guys, found him and locked him up. In a world where I am expected to add 20% to my bill just because the waiter manages to get my food to the table without sneezing on it yes, what the cops did was a good job.
I've got to say I was a little disappointed. When I saw the copter circling Lucerne I thought "great, the sheriff is finally busting some of the pot grows that are all over our town. I can't be the only one that is sick of a bunch of lowlifes, including children, giving me the stinkeye because I happen to be driving down a street they think they own.

Well sam - I can say with all certainty if they had blocked CC and the Aves he wouldn't have been able to run up 11th, down CC to 9th, and then down 9th.

Most sane people think 'ya know, that didn't work too well, let's change procedures'. But we're talking governmental entities so is that like what, last on the to-do list? And here, rank is quickly closed and the anonyMOUSE defense team is up to bat.

Count now stands at 3 or 4.

Nice that you think Rod should have a free pass and use fruit from the poisoned tree to harrass people that IF growing are most certainly doing it legally.

Then he would have run another way. My guess is that the perp would have run anyway possible to avoid the law. He ia a 27 year old 6', 150 lb dude. At that age and size it would be like trying to catch a big rabbit.
C'mon Donna loosen up your strap and give credit where credit is due.
Nice work by the Sheriffs Dept.
Mitchell and the deputies got it done.

People run from the cops all the time. I'm saying they caught the guy, that is a good thing. Often times they don't catch these people until months or years later.

As for "if growing are most certainly doing it legally" well that is a just plain stupid statement. How on earth would you know if the pot growing all over town is being grown "legally"? You would have to be stupid to grow pot without a recommendation but if you haven't noticed we have no shortage of stupid people in this town.
I'm pretty well fed up with the whole thing. You have people with the equivilant of thousand dollar bills in their yards, sitting in their windows ready to blast anyone who comes near their property. You have law enforcement that as far as I can tell does nothing to see if any of this stuff is grown even remotely legally. AND you have a town that is in most cases not safe to walk around right now because the growers think they own the streets. It turns our you people are just as pathetic as everyone in the outside world thinks you are. Your neighborhoods are turned into armed camps and all you can say is "well Ma, at least it aint tweekers".
So the police managed to catch an armed fugitive. I say good job! At least in this case they did something right.

For all the armchair quarterbacks: This was not Starsky & Hutch or Hawaii Five-0 where the perp is caught after jumping over a couple of fences. This was REAL, dirty police work and the outcome was perfect, regardless of who is, who is not or who will be in charge of the Sheriff Dept. Good job deputies and CHP!

Funny that CHP is on the front page. That must be because of the great new Mitchell substation that never got manned. Been by it several times since the article and I still have not seen one duty there. A building with nothing inside, just like Mitchell's brain.

good God, he was SNITCHED-OUT, the cops didn't find him. I'm not faulting the SO for that, I'm just saying the "atta boys" are not justified, they did their jobs and everything turned out as it should, nobody got shot at and yes, this was a lot of fuss over not a whole lot.
