I am Vallejo ... I am proud

Feb 14, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

I was disappointed that the Feb. 3 letter from James Wiley was printed. Vallejo has its struggles, but it is far from the worst town in the Bay Area.

You are delusional lady. I'm glad there are people in the world like you, but don't tell me I'm the problem because I go out of town when eating out. You want me to go to an area I wouldn't shop in during the day to support a local business. Absolutely not. And it has little to do with fear. When I spend money, I'm paying for the experience and driving through a ghetto past hookers, drug dealers, trash and graffiti is not my idea of a good time.

this is what is happening to vallejo, unicorn riders organizing under various banners, going nowhere, and denouncing those that are able to get the freak out.

Thank you for your thoughtful letter. I have been here longer but feel as you do. Though occasionally we go out of town for dinner or shopping I first do my best to find the best in our town.

I love living here, do not believe in unicorns but know how a life lived and one's perspective comes from within. If you are stingy, shriveled of heart & mind, well that'swhat your experience will be.

Never mind the haters, they will be bitter and resentful wherever they may be.

how can you possibly love living here? because you have like-minded friends in denial about the steady decline in our quality of life? our crime rate is soaring, no council majority will stop the growth of affordable housing and resultant criminal potential, the city is dedicated to growing more of it, and you LOVE living here? you're freaking crazy as the letter writer!

It doesn't matter who the mayor is, non of these bleeding heart liberals has the guts to just say NO to expansion of affordable housing programs, ruining neighborhoods all over Vallejo.
I give credit to Joanne Schivley, the ONLY politician is recent history to just say NO while 6 others said YES.

LOL!
Like Vallejo just started having issues since December 2011?

How funny the oozers forget that since 2001 the general fund has been consumed by public safety costs between 70 to 80 percent leaving nothing for economic development, infrastructure repair.

What economic development? You are two years into a new ED department head and still nothing to speak of, so miss me with that smack. Your problem is NO COUNCIL will stop the disease of affordable housing, bringing you more poor, cheapskates, and criminals. Your new majority just two days ago said YES to expanding the programs in Nestlerode's department, YES to more social misfits, YES to more criminals. I get to leave at the end of the day, but you are screwed forever as long as you stay in this town.

It is refreshing to hear from someone who is truly happy living here, in the City of Vallejo.

However, is it not so "liberal" to chastise someone for believes different from ones own experiences?

Having read the original letter when it was published, this individual has chosen to leave our city because his expectations have not been met. How true that rang to some of us that came here with similar thoughts can only be understood by those that worked through it and none the less stayed here and toughed it out. Some people were not fortunate enough to leave due to various obligations and simply walking away was not an option.

On the other hand, many took the opportunity and made a life somewhere else away from miserable schools, lack of local jobs, non existent shopping opportunities...and I can truly understand that! But that was our situation, then ….and if those people are indeed happier in their new surroundings is unknown. They did not ever come back to tell us about it, but I bet they do miss the weather, where ever they may be!

No longer having a family to raise and simply being able to enjoy life as it presents itself without much undo pressures of job and commute, I should be just full of giddiness and joy!
I am a content individual living an organized yet sometimes chaotic life due to relatives spread throughout the world, I enjoy relative good health and so do my loved ones. Most of our friends live in other towns, so they humor us with their own kind of support, much nodding and head shaking…..
From an economic standpoint I could be considered as happy as a "pig in mud", but that has nothing to do with the City of Vallejo.

Being happy would include that I am a satisfied resident who agrees with the "State of my City", how it is functioning and quality of life issues fulfilled. What do you think?

Compared to other parts of Vallejo my neighborhood can be considered quiet, clean and free of the usual freeloaders so many areas of my town have to live with. It has not always been that way and with the combined efforts of a few it has returned to the early years of intended use, a family neighborhood.

So I am happy for those that can consider themselves all around happy due to supporting local restaurants and patronizing local merchants that can fulfill all their wishes, being able to walk a happy dog and clean up the neighborhood from garbage discarding unhappy people…..

I have not yet found this happiness locally, even after 20 years....

And I wonder what it's like to be you? Calling people bitter, stingy and shriveled of heart simply because they have a different opinion or don't agree with you? You are a hypocrite and too ignorant to see that in your post. If you have no standards for yourself or your family, that's your choice, but we do.

that poster reflects the delusional attitudes of some of our neighbors, believing in a perspective to avoid confronting the reality of our situation, which is dire and getting worse.
