Troublesome snail moving upstream in San Lorenzo

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

The range of the pesky New Zealand mud snail, discovered two years ago in the San Lorenzo River just outside the city limits, is much larger than initially suspected.

With all the homeless camps along the rivers and creeks dumping raw sewage, detergent, drugs, and other junk into the water all the fish are going to be dead anyway.

This is a sanctuary city... let the buggers in. It doesn't matter if they are supposed to be here or not. So what if they destroy the local habitat... they need protection. Perhaps we should force the struggling local species to surrender more of there resources so that the poor struggling NZ Snail can continue to over populate and speed up the extinction process.

Seriously, that's a bigger worry. The homeless are not only polluting the river but the ocean as well. It's very disturbing the city leaders have not done anything about it. They just keep feeding and welcoming in these inconsiderate leaches.

These snails are going to permanently alter the ecology of the San Lorenzo and any other streams where they become established, and we may lose many native species. Please help stop the spread of invasive plants and animals.

Unfortunately it doesn't have to be big to cause big trouble...
