Whoever was in charge of closing FM 517 this weekend for the clean-up of the pipeline rupture should have placed signs on SH 146 at FM 646 (main intersection in Bacliff) alerting them of the closure. People traveling to San Leon didn't know the road was closed until they reached the intersection of the "cut through" road (where the SPCA is located) and FM 517. Then they had to turn around and GO BACK to Bacliff and go down Grand Avenue to Bayshore Drive. That was a total waste of about 5 miles roundtrip PER CAR. Multiply that by the number of cars that unknowingly went all the way to the road barrier and the State of Texas, Texas Land Office, Galveston County, or whoever was in charge contributed to the WASTING of an untold number of gallons of fuel. Also take into account traffic traveling north on SH 146 and turning right at FM 517. That would be about 2 miles out of their way to come back out to SH 146 and continue on to Bacliff. With our fuel prices at an all time high this summer this was extremely incompetent by not notifying people of the road closure until they drove those wasted miles. SHAME ON YOU.

it wasnt a waste of gas for you to go that extra distance. you had countless volunteers out there working that scene for no money what so ever. you should be thankful that they were there to help, stop the leak before it got into the bay. that would have been a real disaster.

I have oil in my pond and on my property about 1/4 of a mile from that location from Dickinson bayou storm surge. Can somebody tell me who that pipe line belongs to?
