Two problems not addressed very well.
First is that the river water has a lot of sediment in it. This will build up and clog the pipes over time.
Second is that in order to provide adequate deliveries to the pipes and the delta the river will need to be operated at higher levels. That will increase erosion and sediment in the water and it will cause localized seepage along the edge of the river.
Once again we see a quick fix with long term ramifications and consequences.
