UNIONS?  Walmart could save union jobs look at Rosemead. Balanced budget! Mayor is thankful for Walmart. El Monte I thought we voted for change? BRING WALMART! Build and people will come.

Let us see how this works out. I think the public spoke its peace about the shortcomings of this developer, but I'm glad the council voted to give more time. If they have nothing to show for in 90 days so be it.

Glad to see Norma and J showing a little independence.

As Quintero said, many of the people that spoke at last night's meeting were critical of the developer, but what Quintero obviously missed was that not a single resident that spoke favored bailing out at this time. Obviously, the mayor was only listening to what he was interested in hearing. Quintero owes his soul to the unions, and it is the unions that he supports with his votes. He needs their financing when he makes his run for higher office. El Monte is only a stop-over for him.

Quintero opposes appointment of Rene Bobadilla (probably because POA and Loal 1014 opposed Bobadilla)

Quintero opposes exploring Walmart opportunity (probably because union backers oppose Walmart)

Anyone starting to see a pattern.

Montebello just had a RECALL.

Anyone interested in a RECALL.

I mean honestly were we really given a TRUE CHOICE for Mayor this last election: McDrunkie vs. McSleazy?

The problem does not appear to be if Wal-Mart should come to the city, but is there a COMPETENT DEVELOPER that can GET Wal-Mart to come to the city! ANd what "16 acre site" at Valley Blvd. and Santa Anita Ave. is being referred to? El Monte Station?

Why do we need a Wal-Mart in El Monte? There's one in Baldwin Park and Rosemead. And as for one comment suggested a Super Wal-Mart with groceries. Target in Rosemead is going to start selling groceries. Valley and Santa Anita are already congested with traffic. All this would do is bring more idiots to El Monte. Besides this sound like the Wal-Mart Corporation is bribing officals to allow them to move into their city.
What else is new??????

Yep! You're right there are Wal-Marts in Baldwin Park and Rosemead. El Monte residents have to go OUTside the city to shop. Baldwin Park and Rosemead are getting our tax dollars. If a Wal-Mart comes to El Monte, it will mean sales tax revenue, and property tax revenue for the city. As for who is bribing who...our mayor has shown with his votes that he is the property of the unions.

Nice try Mr. Rosemead. Why don't you worry about your city instead. We will keep our sales tax revenues to ourselves thank you.

It may be good, after Walmart puts out all the Mall's nasty stores out business maybe we can redevelop the area into something nice for the middle class residents. Hope its a SuperWalMart to make it worth the tax payers' investment.

I voted for Mr. Quintero, its good to see someone with intelligence on the Council. Even though I may not agree with all the decisions he will make in the future, he makes good legal points, looks at the bigger picture and our future. So what if it’s a political stepping-stone for him, that is one of the problems with El Monte that we keep the same people in power and they are out of touch with the outside world. Give the young man some time to get settled in and I hope next round we see some more new young adults take the baton from their parents. I think we did a good job raising our kids let them lead. If you think you can do a better job get out there and make a difference.

Forget Wal-Mart, we want a Super Wal-Mart. If we're getting a Wal-Mart we want the added bonus of a grocer, butcher, baker, and deli!

I am glad our mayor has the sense to do his research, just a simple sturgin search found a relationship to a large fund offered to him in 2007, by goldman sachs, yes he builds big huge, well he has to use most of it to remodel most of the shopping centers, he said he has been romancing wal mart for 7 years? That is all he has to offer?, where is the santa fe plaza?, I guess after the Titan betrayal walmart seems like a cake to the local peasants, instead of the lousy crumbs it is.

Why are discussions taking so long because we have a sams club and I am sure there is a conflict of internal interest, or walmart who is not doing good anywhere may replace the Sams club instead of doing a new building in a new location. If they have failed to perform on the agreed contract, let them default and take back the property.

But you're also paying a higher sales tax to shop in El Monte, which pays for the city's mistake and bonuses and raised. Ouch.

The only reason why EM now approves of this Walmart is due t bad managment in the first place.
