Evacuations Due To SF Richmond District Gas Leak

Some 250 San Francisco elementary school students were evacuated to Golden Gate Park Monday morning after the school's principal smelled natural gas and alerted authorities to a leak in the neighborhood, San Francisco Unified School District spokeswoman Gentle Blythe said.
Frank McCoppin School, at 651 Sixth Ave. in the city's inner Richmond district, is at the center of a 12-block area closed off to traffic after a leak near Sixth Avenue and Balboa Street was reported to authorities.
Residents of the area have been evacuated, according to the San Francisco Fire Department, which is taking a lot of precautions until the leak is capped, a dispatcher said. Read more
