I don't usually mind when the Herald editors make minor edits to my letters, but they made a change to my letter today which watered down a point I was trying to emphasize.
The last paragraph originally read (deleted phrase in CAPS):
"The real transportation competition affecting our tourist dollars is California's growing intercity rail network. It now serves over 80 cities INCLUDING SEVERAL COASTAL DESTINATIONS. Monterey should be among them."
It's just four words, but they were intended to drive home the point that comparable travel destinations already have better transportation service than we do so they can attract visitors who might otherwise choose Monterey.
The Herald also cut another phrase, but it did not affect my main point so that one was OK.
That said, though, I am happy the Herald put my letter at the top. So I can't complain too much.
