Doctor Arrested for Writing Prescriptions for Narcotics Without Examining 'Patients'

Apr 18, 2008 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: LawFuel.com

“Unfortunately, there are a few doctors such as Dr. Bambad using their position of trust in our communities to prey on those who are vulnerable to the abuse of these drugs.”

A physician with an office in San Fernando was arrested today on federal narcotics charges for allegedly writing prescriptions for powerful and addictive painkillers, such as Oxycodone, for people he did not ... via LawFuel.com

No. ROOT to all evil sorry had to fix that lol, sorry. <- Grammar freak also that sucks wish people could just stop snitching at least maybe he helped some people who could not acquire these scripts from their own docs for 1 reason or another, i believe it is solely each persons responsibility to know about the drugs they are taking and the consequences and if these dumb kids go out and hurt themselves because they take xanax & oxy and vic's all at the same time well i have no compassion or sympathy for them people need to be armed with knowledge about what there doing and putting in their bodies i mea come on who just pops a mouthful of different pills w/o knowing the cause and effects they may have it is just clear cut stupidity blame the ignorance of people not the drug, it's just like dumb people who blame pit bulls for their aggression when it is the owners fault for training their dog in that horrible way or blaiming games for violence when it is the parents responsibility to teach their children, people overdosing on benzo's and painkillers got what they deserved for being ignorant, i know damn well i would never just take a buncha different pills even if they were all the recommended doses it is just dangerous. Peopl need to practice extreme caution when taking any drug especially prescriptions it is up to you not your doctor to know all the risks you agree in my opinion to knowing the risks when you fill your scripts, and you can ask the pharmacist all the risks and details about what other drugs may interact with what you are taking, knowledge is power and that step is you're s and you're s alone.

I guess I agree with most of what you say...but some people are geneticaly apt to addiction and are unable to stop once they find that "DRUG" that does it for them, could be anything from alcohol to shopping gambling or heroin...

70,000 PILLS in a year is not alot. if average patient takes 90 pills a month that works out to 65 total patients a year. i would bet at some large pain clinics they have as many or more.

I couldn't agree more, Stoner. 70,000 pills is not that much at all. What's more, many pain management docs write scripts for 150 or more. I just find it funny that the doctor is so often made to be Satan in these cases; when in fact, it is the patient who should be responsible.

In this case the doctor was satan he was writing scripts without even examing some of the patients and some told them they weren't in pain and some even told him they were going to sell them on the street(even discussed "street"prices)so in this case the doctor was in JUST for the money!!!

I think the doctor is being negligent; however, the patients should be held accountable as well. But yes, it was definitely ludicrous of the doctor to discuss street prices and write scripts for people who weren't in pain.

What will happen to all of his patients. Where do they go? What about those that were taking medications for legit reasons and who did have minor to severe pain. Where are we to go.

You mean the DEA just took him out and did not provide his patients with the proper information, such as which doctors will see them, etc?

That just does not seem right no matter how you look at it. Plus, why is it so wrong about a MD that wants to know about what the street price is certain medications? We all know, that does not mean we have actually participated in selling RX drugs on the street.

I 100% agree with that you should have some place to go. But did you read the whole article he was giving script's to people who told him they didn't even have pain? I would start calling doctors and find one to take you before your scrtpt runs out.

Yes, again, I agree that he should not have writing scripts for people who who said they did not have pain. There is no doubt that mistakes were made here.

However, again, you don't take away a man's (or woman's) crutch and not give them something else to lean on.

I can say that this MD did evaluate me as I would expect he could do. Many of the patients he saw did not have insurance, so, he had to take them mostly on their word and a general examination.

Most doctors, if you have experience with seeing doctors, generally operate like this because all that is sometimes required is that a doctor treat pain for chronic and painful conditions. There is not much else that can be done if you don't have surgery.

Now, yes, you would see some people in there that seemed odd, so I believe he could have been a little more discrepent. However, I don't know where the line can be drawn between idtentifying a "real patient" from a fake one. They can both give the same speal "I have pain here and here" and one could be lying and the other can be telling the absolute truth as in my case.

How does a doctor make a distinction? What if he is wrong and people go suffering. I think the benefit does outweigh the cons.

23 year olds die from over consuming alcohol, are those people being arrested. The only difference here is the stigma surrounding pain medication use and/or abuse in some cases. The facts show that addiction is rare in people that use opiod pain medications, I believe only something like 5% of people will actually develope a real addiction (Dependence is normal and is not the same as addiction). This certainly justifies keeping all doctors working.

So, this doctor hurt 5% of his patients, but helped the rest perhaps, and he is in jail? I am not to sure that this is justice. THere are other ways to solve doctor's acting in this way.

Most doctors who treat pain, like to have evidence that something is wrong e.g.x-rays c-scan,mri or records from other doctors or whatever.also pain clinics also have you sign agreement for your treatment(no other docs,"street drugs")As for the patients with no insurance this particular doc.was charging $100 a script, and believe me as an ex user I agree that they shouldn't leave the legitimate Pts.hanging but thats not the DEA's job I also agree that they should leave doctors alone but this guy was really pushing the limits maybe if he was more discerning and not so money hungry he wouldn't be in this predicament now

i agree with you guys alot but i also was a patient i always told him to slow down people are talking mad about the wait and several other things money is an addiction and here is a classic case
it dosen't take a doc. to tell you your nose is bleeding enough is enough and to much stinks but there are real pain clients that need doc. b. but discretion is a must if you want to remand free with a job...thanks for everything doc..b

Hey,

By the way, the office is taking people who may want to support Dr. B. All you need to do is call and give them your name and info.

The DEA has your medical records. So, it is best to do what you can to get them back. Like I said, as long as you are telling the truth, you have nothing lose.

And to answer an above post, before you see the doctor, you sign a form that says that you understand that you likely need further examinations, such as MRI, etc but that due to financial issues, you just need your pain controlled.

As far as I am concerned, he did evaluate me. I think people need to speak out on this issue, at least in this forum. For God sake, the DEA has your medical record. What are they going to do with it?

Just call and ask and they will tell you the DEA has them. So, while you are just sitting around, they are pouring over your information.
