I have researched on this topic for hours and I keep seeing the same statement in every article. Leaving pastic water bottles in the sun or a hot car can cause cancer! The sun rays heat up the bottle and release a chemical called Dioxin. Dioxin kills human cells. Be aware people. Dont drink water bottles left in the sun or a hot car for any time period.

I Saw an episode on good morning America about 7 months ago.. And it's true. But it's all the same thing because what about when all the cases of water are leaving the warehouse and sitting in the big trucks in the heat fir days waiting to get delivered to stores.. It's scary especially for our kids.. You can't even drink tap water omg

It's actually bisphenol-A (BPA). It's a monomer used to make polycarbonate plastic. BPA effects the endocrine system & research has shown that it can effect thyroid hormone levels, cause reproductive damage, as well as birth defects that can eventually lead up to breast and prostate cancer. My advice would be to invest in a few BPA free bottles & a Brita water filter.

According to livestrong, as of the end of 2011, it seems they have discontinued use of dioxin and BPA (both considered toxic in the sun) in water bottle plastic. They say if u see the 1 triangle recycle symbol that lets u know it another type of plastic which the FDA does not consider toxic, even in some sun. The recycle symbols 1-6 do not contain significant amounts of BPA to worry. They say 7 is bad though.

I think some of you are confusing "heat" with "UV Rays". I think it is fine for your unopened water bottles to sit somewhere hot. I also think that leaving your case of unopened case of water out in the sun for more than a day or so will release chemicals from the bottle. It's the RAYS, not the heat! Some of you are comparing "hot" water to water in a creek...The creek is not surrounded in man- made plastic, so that argument is nullified.

Simple solution.... after you purchase your water, put it in the refrigerator or at least out of the sun. Just to be on the safe side.

Did y'all stop to think....your water is probably stored in a hot 18 wheeler transporting beverages, and when the store gets them they store them in the back where it's prolly hot too. Or like most stores they store them outside where is freaking hot...so either way your still screwed...and what doesn't give u cancer know a days what will they say next...cold water gives you cancer too...lmao!

Yes leaving bottles of water in the sun will cause some issues. If it taste like plastic, what do you think your digesting.Stores that keep supplies of water outside are not the stores you should shop in. Yes they get heated up in the warehouse and in the truck also. So, what do you do? Trust the governments safe water drinking act will ensure your city water supply is good? yea right. NO. In stall a filter in your home from a qualified water treatment specialist not a big box store that buys the cheapest possible thing from China. Do not fall for gimmicks like magnets, or high dollar Alkaline systems. Reverse Osmosis under your sink will ensure your family is drinking safe pure water.

Haha Come on guys be nice. I'm with the uv ray guy.. There are great glass bottled waters out there. My suggestion for anyone who cares is to buy glass and not give money to that which you do not want to exist. I work for whole foods and i have been ignored when I told them about the water being outside. I'm trying my best to push the products that I believe in and I won't stick around if they continue to ignore my request after my research is done. Act on it guys. Do what you can. Can't control everyone else.
