$1700/month for 631 square feet? Snicker. With hot and cold running gang wars at your front door...on-call drug dealers (maybe an asset to some) a block or two away and winos squatting in your doorway with people that look like a casting call for Jerry Srpinger louging all over the Transit Mall.

Must be something about "urban life" i fail to understand, at least as practiced in this urban area.

Going to be interesting just how mnany units actually get rented in the current economic downturn.

Somehow, I don't see the connection between "Downtown Urban Living" when it coincides with a nearby Walmart.

How is Darryl Cox able to conduct real estate business with suspended license? For that matter how is he able to afford the rent? I believe Lyon is also developing another apartment project at Broadway and Magnolia. City of Hawthorne saw overbuilding of apartments in the 1990s, and those apartments were finally rented to tenants that migrated from South Central area, and the City's demographic income and ambiance was ruined. City Redevelopment Agency needs to look at City of Hawthorne and learn. In order to do smart development and attract better tenants, City of Long Beach needs to look about petitioning the regional transportation agency about linking the BlueLine to Anaheim Regional Transportation Center.

And why did they use cheap, ugly granite for the kitchen counter tops?

I'm not impressed with the look and materials used in this project.

And being so close to the walmart which is the most shop lifted store in the nation is a no go for me.

I just don't think that you can drastically change the demographics and people who frequent downtown by building a few new buildings.

Ger rid of some clubs on Pine. Cut off the blue line before it gets to downtown. Stop building section 8 housing 2 blocks west of this so called upscale project and things should slowly get better.

And lastly clean up the trash dump of a beach so that people can actually use it.

They were to cheap to do a bull nose edge on the counter tops, And the horrible color is cheap and unimpressive. They should of gone with dakota mahogany, And a bull nose edge.

And the last picture that says something about a panoramic view shows a rooftop. At least you could see the trash dump of a beach from my old place on Ocean Blvd. And the homeless clan that lived in the arena parking lot doing drugs and harassing people. lol

I pay less then that on my mortgage for a 4 bedroom home near Malibu. People really pay that to live in downtown Long Beach? I thought 2000 per month was the most anyone paid in downtown? And that is way to high to be in such a crime ridden area with a beach that can't even be used. Its sad that the city of Long Beach continues to be a slum.

I hope that people who work for the city are actually reading these comments because as harsh as they are, they are true. As a resident of LB who lived on Ocean and 5th Pl for 10 years and now resides in Cal Heights, it sickens me that I have to drive to SCP in OC or the Santa Monica Promenade for decent shopping. Get it together LB. Nice place to live but if you want hype, you need shopping first, then $$$ lofts. The only decent store in all of downtown is Z Gallerie and I hear they may not even stick around. Is that going in the right direction???

Oh and I forgot to add that these are some of the ugliest exteriors I've seen on residential buildings in a long long time....most of the new builds in downtown look hideous...ugly colors and buildings smack up against the property line so you can hand Grey Poupon out the window to passersby without getting up from your dining table....the ones up on Fourth by Alberstons for example are starting to collect homeless or other vagrants lounging on the shady side steps of units on Elm street.

This zero lot line stuff really looks like *&^% when they start stacking up.

I agreed with what your saying but section 8 has been shut down for 2 years no new app. but the RDA by calf law is supose to use 20% of what they spent 42 million 8.4 for affordable housing you can look on RDA web site they plans to build about 3000 more high-end condos a few more hotels and affordable houing 25 units on broadway and cedar then on 19th amd L.B. Blvd the condos they build a few years ago for $360.000 havent sold so now their low-income. you have a empty condo & retail on 4th and L.B.Blvd that will be the next low income housing what a deal they build $500.000 condos two years later they become 500 a month rentals. the damage the RDA hows done will cost the taxpayers billions

Did everyone forget what the Aqua looks like. Long Beach builds stuff that look like futuristic housing projects. They look horrible even though they were just built a few years ago. And city place lofts are a joke that people laugh about. Who would want to live in that dump right across the street from a brick building that houses parolees for drug and sex crimes. Megan's law website will show how many sex offenders live in or around downtown.

3000 more upscale condos? The harbor tower and Pacific still have a bunch of empty units and those buildings were built in 1991. I own a unit in the Pacific, But i bought it years ago when it was really cheap. I now rent it out for 2800 per month, But at least they have a decent view of the trash dump, i mean beach.

I just moved to downtown this summer. I lived in the city all my life. I looked at Lyon, but they were way too expensive for my taste. Aqua had rentals, but I settled at Camden Harbor view. I like being able to walk to my favorite bars and restaurants. I wish there was a H & M nearby or other middle level clothing stores nearby. But I enjoy it. Homeless and degenerates are everywhere!

Ok, you've voiced your opinion on your dislike of the design, what architectural style should they have used or what should they have done different? Maybe a link to an example?

Also, in terms of building out to the property line this building is matching the footprint of buildings on 3rd and on the Promenade...a continuation of this footprint provides aesthetic uniformity common among urban areas, requiring a setback would make this project look more awkward than better.

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Aquarius

It's so easy to deceive yourself in some way today, especially if you allow wishful thinking to get the upper hand. Don't ignore some unpalatable facts, Aquarius, or the situation will be compounded. Are you trying to keep on the right side of someone you admire or respect? Does this mean presenting a false or highly selective image of yourself? I hope not.
