For the past week or so I and my neighbors have heard a loud boon like rumbling noise. Has anyone else heard this and does anyone know what is causing it?

We hear this noise often. Like a distant thunder or explosion. All research says it has to be training from Camp Pendleton, but we hear it even on days where there is no noise making activity reported on the Camp Pendleton website. You could check when you hear it though ...http://www.pendleton.usmc.m il/

My best guess is that they report it only at certain levels but that there is understandably activity every day that causes occasional noise?

This noise has been driving me a tad crazy the past few days. It is almost non-stop! Thanks for the link. I will check if the training at Camp Pendleton is happening today.

I live 15 minutes outside of Austin Texas and last night we heard this rumbling noise starting at midnight and it lasted until 10am Sunday. We don't live near a camp or base. It started out loud and long and gradually got softer and shorter.
This happened in Corpus Christie and the folks were told that they were steam cleaning a power plant. In the middle of the night? I'm thinking ELF technology.

I have been hearing this strange rumbling since last week. ELF technology? I am thinking the same thing.
If that is what is happening, sad part is there is nothing we can do about it.

Confirmed! We live in ALiso Viejo, overlooking the valley from Chase drive facing 100 deg. east.

We would have a straight line view into Pendleton except that there is a range of hills diving the base from San Juan Capistrano and the Ortega Highway.

I'm hearing the explosions again at approx 4:15p this afternoon. Every now and then we'll hear it as late as 9 or 10 pm.

There doesn't seem to be any consistency as to how many explosions are grouped together or how long they'll last. At least not that I can tell.

Today was a beautiful day not a cloud in the sky, and we heard these rumble sounds in a distance around us, we even felt slight vibrations. They were about 10 to 20 minutes apart for about 3 hours or more. We have no clue what they could be, I have read on other sites some people saying something about skyquakes occuring? I've never heard of them before. Just really wierd to hear them.

Also outside of Austin, TX. Not sure of the date, but heard the low rumbling noise also. I live in a steel framed house with steel siding, & have found since I lived here that it is a giant amplifier for low noise.(can hear someone thumping their bass in a car for miles). Anyhow. the low rumbling awhile back I thought was a train a few miles away, but this was different & it lasted for as long as I was awake listening to it & wondering what the hell it was (close to 2 hours). I am just now searching around on the net to see if others have heard this, & am finding it has been pretty common recently (past several months) from places all over the globe...

i live in east austin--not even a mile east of downtown--and there's been a strange rumble tonight which began around 12:40 and just picked up again now,at 5:50am. i haven't been able to sleep all night so i've been listening for it. strange to hear this IN the city.i went outside to observe the sky to make sure i wasn't hearing a jet (i live near the airport's flight pattern).or an approaching storm or even a semi going down the street.it was none of these but i can only liken the sound to something similar to a jet flying over head, only the sound doesn't travel-it only seems to radiate outward with a stronger intensity.it doesn't sound like it's moving at all--it only gets louder. lasts for around 10 seconds, although i heard a few that were longer. the first round of noise came out as five or so distinct rumbles. if anyone else in austin heard this please post.it also seemed to be coming from the direction of bergstrom airport.

I am a 15 year resident of Aliso Viejo and can confirm that for the last two years or so of this post, I have heard and felt this loud rumbling/boom/thunderous sound/explosion/whatever you want to call it at seemingly random intervals and episodes.

I'm quite curious about what it is. I've confirmed it with neighbors.

It's annoying already, i didn't sleep well last night and it's going to be another sleepless night. I'm a light sleeper and any noise, specially one like that, wakes me up.. I wonder what that might be.

I've been hearing those noises too.....and for years, it was making me crazy. I finally figured out that most of the time it was coming from Camp Pendleton.... However, the noise I hear every night around 9:35 pm is coming from Disneyland!

We hear it in Ladera Ranch, CA all the time. We assumed it was Camp Pendleton. We just bought a house here and we would have thought the escrow documents would have mentioned it or somebody would have told us about it. We lived in Lake Forest, CA and never heard anything like this before in 10 years. Maybe it is the landfill nearby. We really should know about our environment for the safety of raising our families among this eerie sound/occurrence.
